Should I try to get a thorn out of my toddler's arm?

A couple of days ago my 20 month old got two tiny rose thorns in his arm, they will not come out with gentle pushing with fingernail and he is also very unwilling to let me get at them properly.

Will thorns work their way out on their own or do I need to pin him down and sort them out with a sterilised needle?

They are red and a little bit puffy but no sign of a more serious infection otherwise I would be straight to the doctors.

Thanks for any advice!

DH has a knack of dealing with things like this - he pretends to be kissing the limb better and basically sucks the buggers out! (works for splinters etc)

Magnesium Sulphate paste.

Paint it on.

Put a dressing over it (overnight usually in this house)

Pulls it right out with no digging/poking

Try and ease out after a warm bath. The body does normally work any foreign objects but I would be inclined to pin down and attempt to remove with some tweezers!!

Thanks everyone! Trying the magnesium sulphate option tonight. I never knew such a thing existed!

Do it when asleep. Much easier. My dd's now ask for me to do it overnight.
