not sure if two related but friend I went with has been sick too.
My 7yo dd is particularly bad, has a high fever too. Not being sick anymore but has slept all day and very flushed and lethargic.
Have tried calling doctor but no response. Just wanted a quick raise of hands - does anyone think it's worth a trip to hospital or shall I leave it a while later...?
Thanks

NHS Direct maybe?
Did you and your friend and dc eat anything while there?

libelulle · 12/04/2012 17:46

If you are concerned enough to consider A&E, then go for it - don't wait for permission from random strangers on the internet, we can't see your dd so our opinion is worth nothing. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but really it has to be your call.

mrscraig · 12/04/2012 17:46

thanks
Thought nhs direct had been ditched. Will try and phone, thanks x
We did share a picnic, nothing fancy and it wasn't a warm day particularly so haven't really considered that. Will call her again.

I agree with libelulle. If you're worried get yourself to A&E or at least get on the phone to NHS direct. What advice do you think you can get from a bunch of randoms on an Internet forum?

Heyyyho · 12/04/2012 17:51

What animals did you pet?

turkeyboots · 12/04/2012 17:52

Were you in contact with the animals? If so tell anyone you see or speak to, you can pick up nasty bugs which can be much more severe to children than adults.

mrscraig · 12/04/2012 17:58

Why does anyone go on mumsnet except to get advice from random strangers?!
She petted lambs and goats. We did wash hands thoroughly afterwards.
When I posted it was to wonder if anyone had experienced same or could offer advice. I dont want to go to a&e unnecessarily and spread a nasty virus.
Just phoned nhs direct, they will get someone to call back.

My point was that in medical matters NHS Direct might be able to offer more expert advice than a random group of strangers who you know nothing about.

leftmysociallifeatthedoor · 12/04/2012 18:57

Harsh answers people. All you have to say is nothing if you don't want to is 'why not call NHS'.

Hope your dd is ok. I think lambing ewes can carry a disease that's dangerous to pregnant women but not sure about anything else. Was there a soft play or anything. Soft plays are havens of germs in a farm or not.

Heyyyho · 12/04/2012 19:07

I think lambs are iffy to pet. I would call MHz direct and explain.

philbee · 12/04/2012 19:09

Sorry to hear you're all ill. If you had contact with lambing ewes you can get listeriosis (www.nhs.uk/conditions/Listeriosis/Pages/Introduction.aspx). If it was my DD I'd take her to the hospital, or at least call NHS Direct, as it sounds like it's affected her more seriously, perhaps because she had most contact with the sheep? Usually farms post lots of notices around about washing hands, and about the risks of listeriosis at lambing time, and the danger to pregnant women. If they haven't that seems pretty neglectful, tbh. Hope you all feel better soon.

mummynumnum · 12/04/2012 19:43

How are you all feeling? Better I hopeSmile

Kenobi · 12/04/2012 19:45

More worryingly than listeria you can get e. coli from lambs which is VERY dangerous so please, please get a doc involved if you haven't already.

mrscraig · 13/04/2012 08:45

Thanks for replies. We are all feeling lot better this morning. By the time NHS direct called back, my youngest dd was definitely over the worst.
Going to have a quiet day today!

Glad you are all feeling better. I didn't mean to be harsh, and asking random strangers on the internet is often a fantastic idea, I've done it myself - my point was just that in the case of assessing whether an acutely ill child needs a&e, it is your own gut instinct as a parent that counts, even if 100 strangers tell you it is fine.

Just checking it isn't this farm...
