18mo DS hurts himself all the time - is this normal?

Ok, so I grew up as one of 3 sisters in a family where getting a sun tan was seeing as dangerous to health. And now I have a little boy, no 2 after DD, who is impossible to contain. He started walking soon after his first birthday and climbing when he was 9 mo old. What worries me is the no of times he falls over, yesterday from the toilet he fell smack on the floor, which he climbed while I was trying to get my DD to rinse her mouth out after brushing!! Our nanny follows him around like a puppy, but even her reflexes aren't superpowered... the other day right in front of me, he bashed a doll's stroller into a wall, slipped fell backwards and landed on the kitchen tiles. I give him arnica for internal bruising and apply creams etc...

But this can't be normal. Can it?

Thanks muchly

My 20 monther always has some kind of bruise/scrape on his head from his various antics (normally just from running around - somehow going down the garden slope backwards on a balance bike actually went successfully)

I think it's normal if you've got an active one with no common -sense

It's normal. 2 DS age 6 and 16 mo. Wink

My 19 month old son is currently sporting a lovely bruise on his cheek, I have no idea how he did that and he's in my care all day. His knees and shins are permanently bruised and there is a scratch on his upper arm - I suspect that came from the cat he was terrorising stroking yesterday. He has no sense of danger and can climb from floor to windowsill in under 3 seconds if you let him.

It is normal. They learn by each little bump.

I wouldn't worry about applying creams either, just clean it up. The body has a very good system for dealing with minor bruises and cuts all by itself.

Phew thanks!

He just walked right into the corner of the dining table so we have a new bruise behind his ear. Bizarre...
