Bright green snot - a question....

DS 22 months, has lots and lots of luminous green snot. He has had colds before but never with this sort of snot, is it just mucus or could it be an infection? When I have chest infections, the doctors are only interested if my phlegm is green, not clear.

This is day 3 of the snot fest, btw.
TIA

Could be an ear or chest infection so I'd get him checked.

As i understood it, the idea that the colour of snot was related to the severity of infection was outdated advice. Not that this stops a lot of GPs.
But what never changes is maternal instinct - worried, then take him. Better that than sat at home worrying.
Hope he's better soon

I think it's used to be green snot = bacterial infection = antibiotics, which is not necessarily the case?

But when ds has thicker snot he's usually got a nasty virus which can give him ear problems.

Best to get him checked out. In the past, doctors believed that green snot meant that the infection was a bacterial infection. That has now been proven to be inaccurate. Yellow or green snot can be caused either by a bacterial or a viral infection. Does he have fever?

Loving the response from the in the night garden fans! Thanks!

Hm, his snot is thicker, he is playing, eating ok etc, not whining like he did last time he had an ear infection. Quite chesty though. Think will see how he goes on the calpol today and if no better tomorrow or gets worse today will take him to the docs. Thanks Smile

No fever, which is why I haven't taken him to the docs. If he has a sore head etc, he pulls his hair which he isn't doing.
