Slapped cheek syndrome - effects on pregnant women?

Our kids have come out with slapped cheeked syndrome today (woke up with rosy cheeks - took them to the drs this morning).

They are 11 & 13 and will be fine, my concern is that we had a friend over for drinks last night and his wife is pregnant (7 weeks). She didn't come with him, so will only be impacted if he's contracted it.

We've called them tonight to warn them that the kids have the virus, but I was hoping someone could let me know what the chances are that she will catch it? (Just devastated that we've put her child at risk).

My son had it while I was (and still am) pregnant. She will need to mention it to her midwife who will arrange for her to have a blood test to see if she has contracted it. It's very unusual for an adult to catch it as we have normally all had it as kids (bit like chicken pox) and my tests came back fine - tell her to ring her MW though to be on the safe side.

Thanks very much for telling me, I'll let our friend know and she can have the blood test.

There are two elements to the blood test - checking for immunity and checking for whether you have it/have recently had it.

So if she is immune all should be fine.

Thank you so much, as you can imagine, we've been really worried about it. I'll make sure she has the blood test.

Thanks
