Can a 13 month old have Chicken Pox without many spots?

Well title says it all ready Smile

DD woke up on monday with some spots in her belly. Yesterday they faded but had 2 more spots on her leg. Today she has got 3 more on her bum.

I wouldn't say she was poorly, but she isn't herself iyswim. The spots look bright red with a white bit in the middle. Have spoken to my HV as DD had her MMR last week, the hv said that the mmr wouldn't cause spots only a rash and its too soon for that anyway. I asked about Chicken Pox but she said that DD would be covered in them by now.

I haven't taken her out anywhere just in case it is CP. Not sure if I should take her to the GP, because there isn't much they can do and I don't want to risk spreading it if it is?

DD is my PFB so I haven't got a clue

I think that is possible.
DS2 had symptoms like these at this age which we put down to insect bites (we were on holiday) until DS1 got clear CP the next week.
We have never been completely certain that it was CP, but he has now been exposed to CP many many times without getting it, so we're guessing that he just had a very mid case. Not sure if the fact that i was still BF meant he had some immunity.

See thats what I'm thinking but keep being told no, it isn't because she would be covered in spots by now

Bugger Sad

Well I'd still keep her in until they have cleared

Thanks

Well from my experience, when I was a child we thought I'd avoided about getting them after it did the round through my whole family. But I now get shingles. The doctor said I must have had a very mild case with only the odd spot or two.

When my 2 year old got them she was covered, eyelids, literally everywhere. My 4 month got them at the same time and only had 4. They all blister thou, it's not just a spot, it's a blister. Usually the first one to come up is the biggest blister.

urbanturban · 11/04/2012 12:01

DD1 got chicken pox at 2.5yrs and poor DD2 caught it a few days later and was only 5 weeks old (and I was breast feeding and had chicken pox as a child so HV was surprised she hadn't taken on my immunity).
To be honest it was a mild case but the spots looked exactly as you have described-I think you are definitely being sensible by taking extra precautions. Smile

...my youngest was being exclusivley breast fed and it made no diffence. He got them before my eldest too.

sweetandtenderhooligan · 11/04/2012 12:02

My DD got them at 12 months and had a total of about 15 spots altogether.

Thanks for the replies. I've finally caved in and consulted Dr Google Grin

It does look like CP

Ds had chicken pox when he was about 2.5, and had very few blisters. And no temperature. He had a very mild case (but he passed it on to me, and it was awful)

BlackOutTheSun · 11/04/2012 14:27

well the spots have started to blister, because DD is under consultant care at the hospital I've phoned the Doctors to see if I could get a note put on her records. Have been told no, the GP will want to see her. Can't really complain but just feels like it will be a waste of GP time
