First time nits here, what's the best stuff to use?

A friend noticed a few eggs on dd1's hair yesterday evening. Hopefully caught it early. She suggested leaving conditioner on and using a nit comb, and someone else said tea tree oil is good.

Am popping down to Boots later so am open to suggestions!

I wouldn't bother with nit treatments, I tried them and they didn't work. I was a first timer! Tried two different ones and spent alot of dosh!

Did some research, best one is the good old fashioned conditioner and a nit comb. Wipe onto a tissue as you comb the conditioner through.

Repeat every 3/4 days til clear. The reason every 3/4 days is it takes 7 days for a egg to grow into an adult, so combing through every 4 days gets em before they turn into adults. They only move from head to head when they are adults.

And they don't jump they walk, so its head to head contact that spreads them.

Probably have to treat yourself too, I had them, and my hair is really short!

It took a couple of weeks before we were free!

I used hedrin then followed with a couple of weeks combing with a Nitty Gritty comb from Amazon, did the trick

Right, thanks for that. I'll stick to the conditioner for the time being and try a treatment if I need to.

I really don't want to have to do mine though. [yuk]

I know, I was mortified. Made it to 40 before I got nits!

Nitty gritty comb and conditioner every time here too....treatments don't work (no matter how many times mums of children who just happen to get them again and again says they do!!!)

It's the people who use conditioner/tea tree oil who allow the darn things to be continually passed around the children because one go doesn't do it. Buy Nyda at chemist. Do the whole family thoroughly one evening and the problem will be solved. This stuff does work. (no vested interest !)
