Anyone want to help me diagnose DD?

She's absolutely fine in herself, and doesn't feel ill or have a temperature but she has bright red cheeks and a red rash on the top of one arm and down her lower back, bum and thighs which feels slightly warm to touch and she says is a little bit itchy. She's not eaten or touched anything unusual and I haven't changed the washing powder so I don't think it's a reaction to anything.

TBH I wouldn't be that bothered as she seems fine but we have an optician's appointment this afternoon and if it's something obviously nasty I'd hate to take her out and spread it around (but I don't want to keep her home for no reason either)

Any ideas before I randomly google?

Have you googled images for slapped cheek syndrome?

candyflossy · 09/04/2012 11:04

Slapped cheek. Symptoms are sometimes so mild, you only have a mild tepm and a rash.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 09/04/2012 11:08

Ha! I did randomly google and that seemed to be the one that fit, so thank you for confirming. I'll have a look for pictures and see what they look like...

slapped cheek

Slapped cheek can potentially be harmful to pregnant women.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 09/04/2012 13:58

According to what I've read today it can be (and to people with suppressed immune systems) but once the rash appeared she was no longer contagious. Luckily we haven't mixed with anyone recently who falls into that category although I've given everyone the heads up just so they're aware.

Thanks again Smile

You have an optician open on a bank holiday?

Ploom · 09/04/2012 14:08

If its slapped cheek, you're right she is no longer contagious. Ds2 had it a couple of years ago and was absolutely fine in himself & carried on going to kindergarten. It cleared up fairly quickly too.

Vision Express - I popped in last week to see if we could get a walk in for DS1, and these were the next available children's appointments. I was mildly surprised myself, but it is in Croydon and it takes Acts of Parliament/riots for things to close around here Grin

Ah, I am a Croydon gal myself, but transplanted over 200 miles away now Grin

But I bet you miss those lovely grey litter-strewn streets everyday... Wink

As much as I love places outside London, I never get used to the fact that shops/services aren't open all day, everyday.
