2 week old DD has caught a horrible cold from her big brother but I've no idea what to give her for it and I'm not sure whether to take her to see someone. Ive not even had a chance to register her at the doctors yet. My health visitor said if she was ill before then I'd have to take her to a&e but it seems a bit extreme for a cold. Don't know what to do.

Does she have a fever?

Is she refusing feeds?

Is she having less wet nappies than usual?

Is she crying non stop?

Do you have any concerns about her breathing?

If answer to any of the above is yes then call NHS 24. They'll advise as to whether she needs seen and/ or whether ooh can see her without her being registered with a doctor. If you have a walk in you could try there too. If your instinct is saying her get her checked then get her checked, she's still only teeny.

I don't think there's much you can give her other than steamy rooms and salt drops / spray up her nose or breastmilk works too.

No so far it just seems to be a stuffy nose everything else appears to be normal. I've spent most of the night with her on my chest because lying flat on her back seemed to be making it worse for her.

Will hold off taking her anywhere unless she suddenly takes a turn for the worse. We've got saline nose spray will give that a go.

Also a nasal sucker...disgusting but really clears to snot! They feed and breathe better then so win win.

Also books under the top legs of the cot so she is on a 30 degree slant with head higher, also helps with breathing
