Has anyone sought surgery for a DC with a significantly deviated nasal septum?

Hi DS 5yo has full on hayfever type allergies, asthma and interrupted sleep since he was a baby. Paediatrician yesterday put him on a nasal spray and said alternatively you could seek an ENT for surgery. I'd rather not but am interested in other's stories. TIA.

I was told as a child that I should have the op, even though I didn't suffer like your ds. But I never have, I feel that one nostril is harder to breathe through, but never bothered, I am a bit needle phobic.

I may be wrong but I understood that surgery should be done wen the nose is fully grown.. after 16 yrs

I had nasal sprays from the age of around 10 and then had a Septoplasty at 17 - GP had referred me to ENT thinking it was polyps but it was a deviated septum from previous unknown nose breakage - which I blame on my brother Grin

Anyway the op was fine, I went private as was under my Dad's company health scheme and was in for 1 night. I had no bruising the worst bit was the post op nasal hoovering...

I was then diagnosed with asthma at 18 which the doctor thinks was masked by the nasal sprays etc!!

Anyway I appreciate I wasn't exactly a child but it was fine - I agree with above though that it's probably best to wait [busmile]

DH had this done about ten years ago or so. It wasn't much fun for him. I'm not sure I'd put a little kid through it unless there was likely to be a really significant improvement in breathing. DH does snore a bit less and says he can breathe more easily but it's not the improvement he had hoped for.
