my 5 month old daughter is very chesty has a blocked nose & is full of phlegm which makes it difficult when she coughs she chokes as she cannot bring up the phlegm. my son had piriton diagnosed when he was under a year & i still have it i want to give to my baby as it will dry up the mucus/phlegm & help with her cough but do not know the correct dosage as it goes on weight, she weighs 17lb6oz. i know that 2.5ml is too much can anyone help if they have been in this situation. she has been sick for over 5 weeks now & i have tried all the home remedies, babyvicks, humidifier, karvol plug in, lavender oil, been to docs & hospital. government guidelines do not advocate piriton as parents were using to get kids to sleep!! i just want to stop the mucus dripping down her throat & clogging up her chest so she can breathe & be a bit happier.

Poor you and her. Sorry, I know this isn't what you want to hear but I don't think you should give her medicine that hasn't been prescribed.

You say she has a chest infection - is she on anti-biotics?

Please don't give medication that isn't prescribed, if your worried go back to the doctor.

Go back to the doc, get a second opinion as 5 weeks is a long time.

Can you put her cot on a slope? Prop it up with bricks or books.

the only thing that works when ds has a chest infection is to keep him as upright as we can, this usually means dh and I sitting up with him sleeping on us.

If you are worried about her choking, then Piriton wouldn't be a good idea as it would make her sleep more deeply. I really wouldn't give Piriton to an under 1, unless on rec of a dr.

Is she still on the ab's? If she still has a temp and is poorly, maybe take her back to the dr.

Unfortunately the cough can go on for a long time after a chest infection has cleared up though.
