Does a normal nappy rash / sweat rash have blisters / pimples?

Want Mumsnet opinion while I wait for a dr appt.

4 week old dd. We live in a hot, humid country.

She has a sweat rash in her nappy, mostly in the creases of her thighs. It has started coming up in little white pimples / tiny, fluid filled blisters. Does this indicate a fungal infection or something more than a regular nappy rash / sweat rash?

Sounds like an infection. Can you get hold of canestan 1% where you are?

Is canestan for thrush? would that not also be in her mouth / my nipples?

Bugger. I can only get an appointment with the rubbish doctor.

Not sure if it's worth going to see him.

Okay, now I really need Mumsnet's thoughts because I trust you lot to know more about this than Dr Crap.

Canestan 1% is for sweat rashes etc (% for thrush is different) and was told to use by my gp on dds infected nappy rash. Cleared it up in no time. Nothing in mouth.

And did your dd's infected nappy rash have white heads on it?

Some white heads, others red spotty looking things.

Sounds similar. Mostly a standard red, blotchy sweat rash, with the idd little white pimple cropping up.

Will bear in mind when we see Dr Crap. Thanks.

you could try good old calamine lotion, thats all i ever used on nappy rash type problems also leaving as long as possible without nappy on, hope it clears soon xx

Well.

Dr Rubbish first said it was her body excising the hormones left over from the birth, similar to when babies get acne. I'm not convinced because (a) she's 4 weeks old and it's a recent development, and (b) it is localised in the sweaty creases of her thighs.

Then he wrote a prescription (why? If he thinks she's working out birth hormones?) which I discussed with the Pharmacist who told me it was a very strong fungal infection cream containing steroids. He advised against using the cream on an under 6 month old without first trying a much milder zinc oxide nappy rash cream that didn't contain steroids, particularly when the rash in question, while not ideal, is hardly desperately serious or painful.

Why did I not listen to myself and avoid Dr Rubbish? Hmm

So, I paid Dr Rubbish his large fee, ignored his advice, and came home from the pharmacy with some £3 nappy rash ointment and some breathable nappies.

Will see how we go.
