Impetigo- how long to improve?

DS has had a dry exzema patch at the corner of his mouth for ages. This morning it suddenly had become blistered and crusty. The nurse prescribed oral antibiotics and cream for impetigo. Since that appointment I have noticed red spots on his legs and arms which I presume are the start of more lesions. Now that he is on antibiotics, how long before it starts looking better? Will the red bumps on his legs develop into full blown lesions now or not? He has had the first 2 doses today.

On a related note, how the hell am I going to get foul tasting flucloxacillin suspension into him 4 x a day?! Hmm

I got it from a cold sore. it hurts, it aches/burns/itches/tingles unbearably from the inside so lots of sympathyfor him! mine was on my face, doc gave me pills, it has to be treated systemically.

took about a week/ 10 days, and only went after it fully dried up and i googled if it was ok to gently wash off the flakes bits

I mixed my kids' fluclox with posh orange juice

** impetigo is incredibly contagious, dont let him touch it, make sure he has own towel, etc.

He has complained of it hurting, and he has been a bit under the weather, so plenty of cuddles although the poor little mite can only have kisses on the cheek!! What did you wash it with? And yes, it is boak-worthy!!

Does the orange juice disguise it properly?

Hi there, my youngest DD (15 months) has just been diagnosed with impertigo for the second time, she has Eczema under her armpits and on the back of her knees, which the Dr thinks have got infected. She has red spots spreading out from her armpits and onto her chest and back. She is only on day 2 of oral antibiotics and the spots are fading and eczema has calmed down. This is exactly what happened last time she had it too.

I think she got it because she had a streaming cold last weak and was coughing and sneezing all over the place...as were her siblings...so I'm sure it's become infected due to the germ ridden state of our family!

How old is your DS? DD hates the antibiotics, the easiest way to get it in is squirting it in with a syringe...ask the chemist or nurse for some, they normally give them out.

Hope your DS's skin clears up speedily.

For washing the Doc said not to use soap, which I don't anyway as her skin is sensitive. So have just been bathing her every other day and using oilatum in the bath, which cleanses skin anyway.

Oh, and am washing hands fastidiously and bathing DD2 sepearatley from DD1 and Ds. Have also washed all towels and am keeping hers seperate. Luckily it is on her chest/ under arms, so covered up.

He is 2 and a half, and no soap for him normally, only oilatum in the bath unless it's ritual torture hair washing night
