baby sick once every 2 days

This is driving me demented! My 7 week old baby is projects his bottle once every two days and has done so since birth. I feel as if it is something building up in his system as we notice a change in his mood over the two days. Health proffessionals are not bothered as he is putting on weight but its horrible to watch. Has anyone else experienced this? He was given gaviscon which made him sick every bottle and is now on comfort milk but has still been 'sick'. Other things we have noticed (but the doc dont care) are: he froths at the mouth, is very nasal and mucussy (sometimes it covers his airways so cant get breath) is sweaty and hot alot (he only wears babygrows, any thing more makes him sweat) poops every 2 to 4 days. Just feel i need some advice and reassurance!

Sorry to hear your lo is unwell :(

Just wondered if you lo seems troubled at all - i.e. how does he feed? does he cry a lot or settle ok? If he is unsettled I would ask to try an alternative treatment for possible reflux (some babies don't respond well to the gaviscon).

You also say he is hot and sweaty at times - does he have a temp with this?

Also, has he had his 6 week check?

thanks for reply. he feeds ok.he is big for his age, about 13lb at 7 weeks, and takes about 28ounces.(didnt think this was much for his size?) At first we thought he may be overeating but he projects his bottle even if he has only drank two ounces. He does cry alot but has improved since being on comfort milk. He seems alot happier now but still projects once every couple a days and poops every 2-4 days very smelly poops! He has alot of stomach pain wind but burps well.
When he sweats, we have attempted to take his temperature and it seems normal. He has beads of sweat on his face and will be wet on his back if he has been lying down or resting on your arm. He has only worn an outfit once as he sweats too much if in anything more than a babygrow. He has had his 6 weeks check, where he cooed and gurgled as he had been sick and pooped the day before! Same thing happened when we went to the docs! He also froths at the mouth alot, which we think gets worse as sick and poop is building up (so Pleasant!!)

My LO (now 14 weeks) kept being dismissed as he was gaining weight well too (7kg at 12 weeks).

He was foamy at the mouth and, still is a bit, very congested. I kept being told it was mucus, changed doctors and was send to paediatrician who thought it was his reflux.

He's been in ranitidine for 2 weeks and is his breathing is much much better!

Take him back to the docs, describe the symptoms again and video the vomiting if you can.

Get a second opinion from another GP if you can or push for a pard referral. It took me 4 visits to 4 GPs to get taken seriously about my son's reflux.

It could be an intolerance to cows milk causing the vomit, or physical reflux just from eating. Best to tackle ASAP in case he starts to associate feeding with discomfort which can result in a feeding strike.

We have been back to dr and he has prescribed colief to take with comfort milk. There has been a bit more improvement so I still feel that the milk has a lot do do with it. I myself cant drink milk or eat cheese on a daily basis as it makes me very nauseous, but I can have it occasionally... I love cheese!! My mum and sister are also the same but the first dr just said everyone is jumping on the dairy intolerance bandwagon so didnt really listen! At least the second dr has tried something else. We have also been referred to the peadiatrician as the dr found a lump in his groin and thinks it is a hernia. This is another stress to be added but it may also be linked to the sick and poop problem as this type of hernia is where the bowel gets trapped. It means he will have to have an operation. :( The dr wrote down everything we told him to pass on to the peadiatrian so hopefully we will get somewhere. I will keep you posted.

My ds had the same hernia op at about 6 months I worried myself suck but it was all over fast, he recovered very fast and now u can't even see the scar, he's 14months, my ds also has reflux and milk intolerance, it's hard when u know they are not quite right but behave for the doctor etc, take care x

Yes, its hard to actually know what is helping and what is not! Since being on comfort milk and colief he hasnt been sick! So something working there! Im not sure if its worth going and asking fot lactose free milk as colief is a bit of a pain to do. We have been lucky as dr has given us colief on a repeat prescription. Only prob now is awfully nappies and terrible wind! Not sure if this is related to milk or what! Still waiting for the dr to sign the form for paed refferral! Not sure why this has taken over a week!

Laura, did he have to stay in over night? I am a real homebird and hate my family being seperated.

No he got out a few hours after the op, once he had took a bottle and done a pee,

hope u get referral to paed soon, my son has reflux and at his worst he is sick once every day and refuses food, but luckily were being seen by by paed and dietician x

pilchard72 · 08/05/2012 21:45

Well, after waitin and worrying for 3 weeks the paedtrician couldnt find a lump and was less than helpful with dietary issues. As he had stopped being sick on colief and comfort milk he seemed to think he was ' cured'! Dr said not to change to lctose free milk as this causes more problems! But he doesnt understand the problems anyway! He is alot better but still suffers with terrible wind and reflux. Going to oesteopath on fri!

Maybe ask your doctor for hydrogenated milk? For a 2 week trial and see how it goes?

Lactose free won't help any more than the colief as that's what it does, I'm sure.
