Worried about dd- vomiting bug?

hellymelly · 31/03/2012 23:30

My dd is 7. About a week before last half term she had a classic vomiting bug, was sick about 7 or 8 times over nine hours or so, and then got better. (my other dd also had it). Then only ten days later, at the end of half term, she was sick again, but only once.
She's been worrying about being sick again, and complaining now and again of a tummy ache. On Monday she told her teacher she had a tummy ache and was a bit tearful in school- she was sick that evening, again only once. She looked a bit weak and off colour the next day but by Wednesday was bouncy again. Then this morning she woke up early, crying with a tummy ache and was eventually sick at about ten a.m. She slept a lot today and was fine again by bedtime.
I called NHS direct earlier and they said she should be seen today, but the out of hours GP said there was no need. I will take her to out GP on Monday obvs, but anyone else had anything like this? the sporadic sickness seems a bit odd . She is a slightly anxious child anyway and so is now understandably worrying a lot that she will be sick, and she looks very very thin and pale. Any thoughts anyone?

There is a lot of this going about right now!

NHSD will always advise you see a doctor because as nurses they can't diagnose over the phone so they sort of filter the definate "you are fine" calls and then send the others to the gp.

Out of hours are GP staff and are the gate house of gp appointments so they triage the calls better and you have the option of speaking directy to a doctor so I would take their advise over NHSD.

I wonder if your DD is anxious and manages to wok herself into vomiting? Is she bck to eaten ok?

Yes she's been eating fine. She's mainly been anxious about it when she's had any kind of a tummy ache. I don't think she's worked herself up into being sick as she woke up with the tummy ache this morning, and would normally be very bouyant about it being Easter hols etc. She also looked ill, white as a sheet, rather than her normal self.

In that case I would wait until Monday and speak to your gp, there is soo much going about right now.

You probaly know this but you can give paracetamol + iburofen at 2 hourly intervals to ease the stomach pain if she can keep it down.

I hope she starts to feel better soon.

She's fine again now,(asleep). she ate some pasta at bedtime and hasn't felt sick since this morning. Tummy ache went away gradually. Each time it has happened has been the same- tummy ache, very white and ill looking, but better after being sick. Then ok until the next episode. Could she have something that is sort of lingering in her system I wonder? This is the fifth time she's been sick in about 10 weeks.

Hellymelly, what happened with your DD? I ask because mine seems to have something very similar!

leftmysociallifeatthedoor · 10/04/2012 19:08

Ds had something very similar this time last year. It finally stopped after about 4 weeks.

ellenjames · 11/04/2012 10:55

I am interested too to find out how your dd is as we have similar scenario here!

hellymelly · 11/04/2012 23:54

DD is ok at the mo- we took her to the GP on the Monday, and she wasn't sure quite why she's had the repeat episodes of vomiting. She just thought it was probably a virus that she hadn't quite got rid of. And since then a couple of people have mentioned something similar so maybe it is a viral thing doing the rounds? She didn't think it could be her appendix, luckily.
