DD(3) pooing in knickers every day after being potty trained a year

My DD(3) potty trained a year ago and has been clean since then apart from the odd accident. About a month ago she started doing the odd poo in her knickers and I put it down to being busy and distracted. In the last couple of weeks this has escalated and she is soiling her knickers once or twice every day. Sometimes it's a full poo, sometimes it's a little bit but enough to smell and need changing.

It's not that she's averse to doing poos in the loo - she still does some there too and doesn't have an issue with it.

I've tried playing it down, I've tried being cross, I've tried reward charts but nothing is working. She seems to know exactly what she's doing and just looks at me sheepishly when I ask if she's been in her knickers. If I ask her why she just shrugs. It's not just for me - she does it with the childminder and my mum too and I feel bad as they wash the knickers out for me whereas I just throw them away if they're too bad!

I'm at the end of my tether. Has anyone been through this and found a solution? Could it be a medical issue? I've made an appointment with our GP but am pretty sure he'll just say it's a phase and we should try reward charts.

I agree with cassette, sounds very much like faecal impaction to me. Please go to a doctor as it's a really horrid thing. My DD (8) has suffered over a year and is now being treated, but we were changing 3 - 4 knickers a day and showering her 3 - 4 times a day too. She also missed a lot of school as she became in constant pain.

i agree too. this is how 5 year old dd began when she was three. she is impacted which results in her rectum being blocked and fresh poo (skid marks or small bit of poo) pushing past the blockage with no control so looks like she is having accidents but she is'nt. she must be put on a movicol deimpaction plan by your gp...they will put her on high doses to begin with but this is needed to clear the blockage.

We had this too and I would definitely see GP she may know it's happened but not until it's too late as the impaction causes a lack of control
