What suntan lotion for eczema sufferer?

My 3 yr old ds has over the winter developed eczema again. He had it as a baby but it went and for some reason has appeared again. It's not terrible but mainly backs of his knees, inside arms and the odd bit on his bottom.

I've noticed that the hypo allergenic suntan lotion I've been using is making it worse. Can anyone recommend anything suitable? Thanks.

Bumping, because I have the same problem with 18mnth old DD. I'm also looking for tips on how to stop her scratching her elbows literally raw and bloody within minutes of being put in a short-sleeved top Sad so any suggestions from anyone on how to prevent that would be fantastic.

At this rate she will have to wear thin, long-sleeved tops all summer, which is no good if it's going to be hot, but she cannot leave them alone, no matter how well-distracted I keep her.

we use this for DD

she has very sensitive skin, eczema and prickly heat

it works - it ain't pretty (really thick, stains clothes) and is really hard to rub in, but if you work it on the back of your hand before applying it's a great sun cream.

Thanks. Twopeas, we have the same problem re scratching. I was hoping that the warmer weather would dry it out a bit but the suntan lotion seems to make it worse. The backs of his knees are raw Sad

Greenpeople. Loads of stuff on their own website , here but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment, You can also get their stuff in some heath food shops.

unchartered its interesting that the suncream you linked to is based on a zinc oxide formula, that's like Sudocrem which is the only cream I've managed to find that controls DDs excema in any way apart from the steroid creams! so could be a winner!

Thanks bikerun will look at that brand on amazon as it's not letting me see the link (stupid laptop) Smile I'm on a budget so want recommendations without having to spend first Wink

tanfastic · 29/03/2012 12:23

Two peas, I only use Sudocrem now too. I've not needed to resort to steroid cream just yet but have used it before and it was brilliant.

Sudocrem is amazing for all pretty much all skin conditions. DS had awful excezema as a baby - so bad doc thought it might be infected chicken pox. HV recommended Sucocreme, and bingo. Flawless skin for the last 3 years.

UnChartered · 29/03/2012 13:06

yup, i was really sceptical about using a mixture of zinc oxide and olive oil as a sunscreen Hmm but DDs skin is testament to it working!

Natzer · 29/03/2012 18:13

After reading this thread I googled sudocrem to find out a bit more about it as dd has eczema too. There is a new product by sudocrem a moisturising mousse and a mousse sunscreen. Just thought I would let you know Grin

We use ultra sun (the 6 hourly one) and it's been great for DS2. it's all trial and error tho imo.

Dottymcdot · 29/03/2012 22:23

Just started to use sudocrem suncream using proderm technology is good but is a foam and application takes a bit of getting used to.

bumbleymummy · 29/03/2012 22:29

We use Badger suncream on our boys too - no eczema to worry about here but it does work as a suncream! :)

TwoPeasOnePod · 30/03/2012 13:34

ah excellent to find out about the sudocrem sun cream! You fabulous people, that's really put my mind at rest for the summer. Any good recommendations on where to buy it as cheaply as possible?! Grin

valiumredhead · 30/03/2012 17:31

We use Banana Boat powder dry from Tesco - works a treat and doesn't irritate.

IME Soltan from Boots is terrible.

ihearttc · 30/03/2012 20:09

Proderm Sun Mousse...absolutely amazing stuff. DS1 seems to be allergic to every sun cream there is so found this which is apparently made for people with excema 3 years ago and haven't used anything else since.

The highest factor it comes in is 30spf but it's been fine...it's like a hair mousse so you shake it and it comes out then you rub it in but it's not sticky at all and you can't even feel you're wearing it.

We all use it now and Ive converted all the teachers at DS's school as well who wanted to know what it was he was using...they had a care plan for him so he didn't come in contact with "normal" suncream!

mrsred · 31/03/2012 04:32

My ds has eczema and the childrens nurse recommended sunsense which is made in australia, where they seem to be pretty good at sun protection, we have not used it extensively yet, but the little we have seems fine, is quite costly though?

McPhee · 31/03/2012 05:49

Aveeno suncream is amazing. It doesn't sit on the skin like a lot of creams. Sadly you can only buy it in the states, but I think it's available on ebay. It's the only thing I use with my charges, and in 15 years of nannying I'll never use anything else now.

McPhee · 31/03/2012 05:59

Aveeno baby
