My friend has just text, her 4yr old was violently sick and with poo like water again last night.

There was a bout of 24hr sickness going around about 3wks ago, the 4yr old had it, but with him it lasted 2 days, then ok for a day, then bad for 2 days, then ok for 3 days then another 24hrs of d & v.

And it has been going on like that for 3weeks now. Friend took him to Dr last week, they said it was just him taking a while to get over it. He has been ok for 6 days now, then last night was very ill again. Friend reckons he has lost near on half a stone and tbf, he looks shocking.

Does she go back to Dr? She is really worried it is something serious.

Friend has taken ds to a&e as not passed any urine since yesterday and has gone from 3st to 2.7 st.

She is at hospital now but says she feels like they are not taking her seriously.

Crikey. Sad I hope he is alright. She needs to be persistent. If he is that dehydrated then they really ought to be admitting him for IV fluids, he should be passing urine.

Has she told them he isn't?

Yes, but she says that are making her feel she is a time waster. She went to a&e because she thought the Dr was not taking it seriously and she was concerned (rightly I think)

I agree with you. Has he managed to do a wee yet? I hope he is on the mend soon.

He has been seen, Dr was lovely apparently and said that with children especially, dehydration is a major concern and they would rather they came straight in.

It is viral gastroenteritis (i suppose that is just tummy bug virus) and he managed to get a lot of dioralyte(sp?) in whilst at the hospital.

I posted on her behalf as she wasn't sure what to do and doesn't have internet. I thought MN was a good place for advice on children's health! Also looked at NHS etc too.

Oh I am so relieved he's been seen properly and is being treated. Thankyou for updating.

I'm sory there were not more replies, I think sometimes when you are not actually with the child, iyswim, people can't ask you the relevant questions as you might not know the answers. So perhaps that's why - people tend to be very helpful when the actual parent posts.

Hope he is well again soon.
