DS complained of a sore throat this morning and has just come downstairs for a drink of water looking very red, rosy cheeks and feeling a bit hot. I gave him a teaspoon of Calpol but noticed that it's for up to 6 years (and also expired Blush) so was wondering what to replace it with in the first aid box?

Do you have Calprofen? Or children's ibuprofen?

FannyBazaar · 29/03/2012 00:30

I don't have those. Are they the same as ibuprofen? I just have ibuprofen ordinary tablets. Are children's medicines all sugary liquid form?

You could get some Calpol 6 plus. It is in liquid form but I think you can get a sugar free one. Also, Nurofen for Children is sugar and colour free. As Calpol is Paracetamol based and Nurofen is Ibuprofen, you can alternate them every two hours if needed.
Medised has always been the saviour in my house, however they have apparently discontinued it (sobs)

Just give him 2 tea spoons of calpol, its the same as the 6+ but not as strong, if you still have the box it should say what dose he should have. Apparently you can no longer buy medised Sad.

I stuck with the 1 teaspoon of old calpol, he's fine now. I'll check out the other options and ask the friendly pharmacist what he thinks best.
