second ear infection since christmas - should we be worried?

DD 22months, has been grumpy (well more than usual!) and off her food for a few days now. she has been sleeping even less than usual and all this culminated in her screaming in agony this morning. so i have taken her to dr this morning and she has another ear infection, in both ears. this is the second she has had since christmas. and probably the fourth she has had altogether. so much for BF keeping ear infections at bay!

is this normal? should i be worried that there may be more going on? her older brother has had an infection last month and at the moment we feel like we should have shares in amoxicllin!!! is there anything i can do to help her out and keep her well? i seem to be forever at appointments with her!

I dont think its that unusual tbh. Ear infections are awful poor her (and you!)

That sounds very low level ear infections. Ds had ear infections every 10-14 days from about 3 months until he had grommets put in at 20 months. When the grommets came out last winter his ear drums perforated 8 times over 3 months before more grommets were put back in.

He was bf until he was over 3yo (though not exclusively from about 8 months) so if it helped him then it didn't show. Wink

I did suggest I camped in the GP's waiting room at one point due to the amount of time I spent there.

sounds normal; we've had them about once a month for 2 years (also despite BF till nearly 2) and now we have the occasional burst eardrum without the scary high fevers

some children are just more susceptible than others..

oh thank you, thats reassuring to know that it sounds normal, even quite low level. DS has had just 2 in his 4.5 years so i thought she was getting a lot. i do hope your DS is on the mend now DeWe and that your LO oricella is ok too

leftmysociallifeatthedoor luckily she is a VERY poor sleeper (but thats another thread altogether!) so havent really noticed the sleep deprivation, but thank you for thinking of me Smile
