my daughter is under the general hopital pediatrician . she was born at 6lb 2 oz and i was a week late full term. natural birth and she was healthy at birth .

when she was born i requested from the doctor i would like her to be on watchful eye with a pediatrician as i was treated for growth hormnone deficiency when i was young as a child . im a size 8 petite and 5 ft 2 inches . the pedtrician said that there seems to be no signs of any growth hormone deficiency on my daughter as she is growing in phase

no health problems at all . my partner is medium bulit and about 5 foot 6 and no history of any health issues .

we as parents are small , so i can think to why my daughter would be small.

she is now 2 years and 6 months and she got weighed today . she is at 21.13 lbs. which 9.90 kg and her height is 83 cm .
the pediatrician said that she is a bit concerned about her weight as if she got ill over the winter months to come she will lose a lot of weight.

my daughter is exstremly active . she does not stop and very active , she is always running about and talks a lot .

she is also is an exstremly fussy eater . she would only nibble on a toast and avoids breakfast or cereal at times . lunchtime she snacks and dinner time she will eat a meal but not lots . A couple of mouthfulls and she would go of it . i try to give the best healthy diet as possible . pasta , rice, speggetti , cheese etc etc

after dinner she will then have a yogurt and some fruit and crisps thats it. we try and give a healthy diet much as possible but she is very resistant to meat and eggs and any diary products . she does not drink the milk bottle anymore.
we have tried every trick in the book to try to get her to eat but it is always a struggle . there is not much meat products or dietry products we can try as she will blank refuse them .

i really dont know what else i should do. the pedtrician said that she will have to do some tests after three months if she does not put weight on .

can some one give me any advise what i should do please as im very worried about her weight .

according to the HV red book she is 2nd centile for both height and weight so totally in proportion and i would suggest that she should be on 2nd centile based on her parents heights.

Does the paed not plot her height and weight as they should be doing so every appointment if monitoring growth?

My DD was 84cm at age 2.6 and under 22ib and I describe her as chunky as she is compared to her siblings!

I would ask your paed is she not in proportion as we have been advised height and weight should be same centile.

My dd was 5lb9 at birth, 0.4th centile or something like that (the bottom line on the chart anyway, I know it's less than 1). She's 9 now. Never eats much, doggedly follows that line for both height and weight. I got so fed up with health visitors telling me she needed to eat more. She didn't want to eat more!

When she gets ill, her ribs stick out like anything and her jeans don't fit, but she piles it back on the following week. Actually, on that subject, ds2 has just been seriously ill, lost loads of weight. In the 4 weeks since he got better, he has put it all back on, all 3kg (that's 20% of his weight, he is 4.3yo). So I wouldn't worry too much about being heavier so she can be ill, iyswim.

So your dd being small doesn't necessarily mean anything other than she is small. And she will gradually get less fussy about food as she gets older.

Your doctor is on the alert, looking out for anything that might be wrong, so if there is anything, it is going to get picked up in plenty of time.

So all you need to do is offer the healthy food (you can't do more than offer) and try not to worry ...

(oh, and fat in the diet at this age is a good thing rather than a bad - will she eat chips and cream cakes? Grin)

yeah she does nibble on chips. im glad to here she is not severly under weight. i think the peditriacian is keeping an eye till she is 5 due to my history of growth hormone .
if she would only eat more that would be great
can anyone reccomend please any fat piling meals. i know i should not think this way but pediatrician said after three menths she would begin to test her blood if she does not pile any more weight. i realy dont want her to go through all these injections as she is small and she fears needlles.

i really dont think she is underweight at all - she sounds exactly the right weight for her height as my dd is. Has your paediatrician never told you what centiles she is for height and weight? Growth hormones ae used when they have a concern with height not weight.

I do think you are worrying unnecessarily. I have a DS who does not eat or grow and can assure you that I am delighted my DD is on the 2nd centile for weight and height like your DD and think she is doing really well. My DS is 8cm below the 0.4% line.

2nd centile especially for a girl is fine, no issue with being petite.

My ds was and still very underweight. We saw a dietician when she was younger who told us some tips on getting fat and calories in to her. Cheese everyday, a bar of chocolate everyday (she loves this rule) , cream where you can ie pasta sauces, mash potato and also avocados as these. are fattening.
