Dd2 has just been diagnosed with a severe case of strep throat, i was just reading that strep throat can lead to scarlet fever. Dd2 had scarlet fever 2 years ago so is it possible to get it again?

Yes I think you can. Strep throat is often disgnosed as tonsillitis.

I don't think you can. However I think it is something that can be easily misdiagnosed if it's a mild case.

Yes, I've looked it up. All sources I can find say it is rare to extremely rare to have more than once.

Thanks, i'm not sure what to think of the doctors diagnosis, she was shocked at the size of her tonsils and gave us 2 weeks of penicilin, i couldn't get any into dd2 (She has ASD and even with 2 of us we could'nt syringe it into her) but then her temprature went down and she started to eat and drink, her tonsils look smaller but still red. She's not 100%, still very pale and not drinking enough but is well enough to play in the garden. Surely if she was as bad as the gp made out she would be getting worse without antibiotics? She's showing no signs of scarlet fever, when she had it before she had the rash and the purple tounge and was very very poorly for weeks.

Should i take her back to the gp to get her checked over and to see if she should be having antibiotics?

I'm unsure if/when to send her back to school, was thinking if she was ok wed she could go back? Is she contagious?
