Advice for healing scars after badly split lip with stitches

My DD 5yrs has just had an op to stitch up a very badly cut lip after falling flat on her face on a stepping stone. The cut is straight through to the muscle and above the lip line stitched with dissolvable stitches.
Apart from it being totally swollen up I am concerned about scarring on her face. The consultant said that they will be a scar but obviously I'd like it to be as small as poss.
Can anyone advise on what they used to prevent/help scarring? (Bio Oil or other?) and when they started to apply it? Somone has told me there is something that Dr can prescribe?
Any advice at all really appreciated!

Bio oil is amazing my DD some how feel on to the round edged coffee table and ended up with 5cm long full depth wound on her forehead. I am a vet and even I was shocked. After the sutures came out ( we had to keep them in for 14 days) I applied bio oil twice daily massaging each time for about 4 weeks. DD was 6 at the time and now nearly 18 months later it is barely visible.

I used a strong Vit E oil on my son's scar. It healed well.

When I was 11yrs I fell and took the skin just under my knee off to the bone. The scar was horrendous - flat and shiny purple oval about 3 inches across. After a few years we heard about Cica Care silicone gel sheets and tried them out. I only used it for a few weeks. It worked really well, and somehow continued to work even after I stopped using the sheets. I can still see the scar but I don't think that someone who didn't know about it would notice. I know this sounds like a sales pitch, but I really couldn't recommend it highly enough. It is quite expensive but made such a difference to me. Not sure if its OK for young kids though.

DD is having silicone gel on a scar - the one she has from the plastic surgeon is called Kelo-cote.

Thanks again. Going 2 dr tomorrow 4 checkup will ask him about these 2. Now been told that kids should normally have plastic surgeon if operating on face, not in Barnet!

Hello, I know this is a very old post but I am wondering how you DD healed? My 16 month DD has a similar injury and had stitches by maxillofacial. I am incredibly anxious about her scar. It's 2 weeks since the accident and looking like it'll scar badly. I was wondering if you might be able to share an update. Thank you
