I'm not sure what to do here so some advice would be great. My sister had both her dcs, now aged 5 and 7, immunised for chicken pox when they were younger. My own DD has had chicken pox, but DS who is a toddler has not and also has epilepsy so risks having a siezure with a temperature. I have not had him immunised for chicken pox as his first siezure was shortly after his MMR (and I also don't think CP vaccines are that effective). Anyway, as you can imagine I am particularly keen for DS to avoid chicken pox because of the epilepsy and also because we are meant to travel abroad next week.
Anyway, to get to the point, my 7 year old nephew who was immunised is now recovering from chicken pox. Apparently the immunisation meant that he only had a mild case and all spots have now scabbed over. His first day back at school was today. I think that if he has had it then despite being immunised, his sister who is 5 could have caught it from him and be carrying it. We are meant to see them on Sunday and my sis thinks I am ridiculous for questioning whether we should go. She says that it was incredibly unlucky her DS got CP after immunisation and would be very unlikely her DD would get it. She says it is the same risk as getting CP twice. So, what are the mumsnetters opinions? In my situation, would you take your children? Am I being overly cautious? I really want to see my sister and her kids so if it is really unlikely then I think I would go.
