Help DS has eczema under eyes

My DS age 2 has red inflamed eczema under his eyes. It's been like this most of the winter and we've tried so many things to try and sort it out. we've had hydrocortisone 0.5% from doc and used the usual things like White Paraffin Ointment, Vaseline, and yesterday we bought some Virgin Olive Oil eye serum which appeared to be helping, but not today.

He's also coming to the end of a 2 week course of antibiotics because it looked like it got infected. Last week i thought the antibiotics were having an effect, now we're back to where we started.

Because it's under his eyes we're really limited with what we can use. His eczema elsewhere had cleared up before this came about and I can't link it to any changes in diet. The only possible correlation is the cold weather.

Does anyone have any tips and advice based on your experience or knowledge? Thanks.

My DD had eczema around her eyes when she was younger, particularly on her eyelids. She always looked exhausted! The Gp did say to us not to be afraid of using the hydrocortisone cream when needed to bring it under control - the rest of the time we used Diprobase ointment which she took to nursery/school.
I despaired of it ever getting better, but what I wanted to say to you is that she grew out of it around age 5 (she is now 8) and it has not returned since. So there is every chance with your DS being so young that he will grow out of it. Good luck!

PS I remember that I used to put the hydrocortisone cream on at night after she'd gone to sleep so that she didn't rub it off or into her eyes.

Thanks very much for that, glad to hear your DD grew out of it, I'm hoping for the same and currently despairing about it. I've not tried Diprobase (about the only thing i haven't) but i think i'd be using hydrocortisone constantly because it's always red and sore looking. Back to the docs on Monday, currently trying Manuka Honey and probiotic sachets in his drinks. It's costing me a fortune!

Just a quick update incase someone stumbled across this in future. The probiotic sachets really seem to be having an effect. I'm mixing them in a yogurt or a drink for him.

They're called Kids Gut Buddies, I found them on Amazon but if they continue to improve things as they have been, then they're worth every penny.
