Hi, am wondring rathet than trawling the tinterweb and scaring myseld silly, can some one give me some normal advice re this?

Dh took dd to gp last week as she has always been very pale and once or twce we've recently caught her nodding on her feet! When she was about 2 she had over a few weeks thorough tests re this including an ecg and there were no points of concern, however her blood tests re iron were borderline.

This time the gp has written asking us to come n and discuss her blood tests. I rang teh gp and the receptioninst checked and called me back and said the dr she spoke to viewd th results ands said that it appeared dd was anaemic.

dh is going to gps to discuss the results later this week (earliest app we could get... and I'm at work, but happy for dh to attend this alone on my behalf) but I'm feeling very thi ck about this.. what does this mean and health wise / future wise what does it mean for dd?

all posts appreciated thanks!

I'd assume the first thing would be to get her on iron tablets, but I'd expect them to want to discuss why she is anaemic, and possibly run some tests on other things, or discuss diet.

I think coeliacs can have trouble with anaemia. Is that a possiblility? Anyone else in the family with it, or other signs?

Dewe, thanks for post. I mentioned it to my mum tonight who said she has previously had anaemia and taken iron tablets, so ther is a possible gentic link?

DD's diet is quite god, eats lots of home cooked food and happily attacks the fruitbowl, bowels movements recently have changed to been almost like the runs, but at other times she can do huge big bog blockin' poos, as dh calls them!

Is this usually a lack or iron that causes it?

Trying not to do big daft panicking!

There are lots of reasons for being anaemic! It runs in our family and van make you feel really poorly! At my worst I faint, puns and needles but if u get the dose right you can feel really energised! It's like someone turning a switch on when it's sorted! My eldest son also suffers. He is worst eater out of all children but it's nit his diet it's just the way he is. I eat healthily and I'm always anaemic. Iron tablets aren't particularly pallet able but there are chewy supplements for kids that aren't too bad. The tonic is vile but it works. I used to get sachets as they were more easily absorbed by the body and floradix is good too. Sometimes its an indicator of other things and sometimes it's just the way it is. Good it's come back on test though Smile

It could also be a vit b12 deficiency so looks like more tests for your poor DD hopefully you will get the right and effective treatment soon xx

Ah, thanks for the responses, Hvd been cramming red meat and veg at her at the weekend, luckily she has quite cheerfully devoured nearly a small lamb Grin
