Peadiatricians at St John and Lizzies or Portland - recommendations? Possible birth injury or neurotic mum?

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody can recommend a peadiatrician at St John and Elizabeth's or the Portland, I'm worried that DS (5 mo) sustained some sort of birth injury, if Erb's Palsy without the palsy bit is possible. The 'waiter's tip position' seems to be the default position of his R arm, and I'm sure that arm has less range of movement than the left one. Otoh, he grabs with it, puts it in him mouth, reaches for things, grabs his toes, but when he's just laying on his playmat, the right arm is in 'snow-angel mode' and the left arm goes everywhere. When I sit him up or place him on his tummy, the arm extends to 'waiters tip' position. I'm not sure if I'm imagining things and would like a good peaditrician to have a look, if you can recommend anyone I'd be grateful. The GP thinks it is a habit but will refer.

He was 4.6 kg at birth and was born with his one arm across his chest with the hand behind the shoulder, iykwim, we are not sure which arm is was though. We have only noticed this arm/movement thing the last 8 weeks as he has become more mobile.

Thanks.

I cant recommend a good paed but have you thought about getting a paediatric physio assessment. IME paed physio's are often better at picking up issues than a paed

Hi, I find Dr Hay (Portland Hospital) very good. However, you could discuss your concerns with Mary his secretary if you want to speak to somebody who specialises in Erb's Palsy and she might be able to give you details of a specialist. Dr Hay is very good, he is a consultant paediatrician but I am not sure if he specialises in this. You can find him on the consultants part of the website from the Portland Hospital and also on Dr Fosters. His phone number is 020 73908295
