Need help getting dressing off. DD is sobbing.

DD has got quite bad burns all over her body after an accident on a treadmill which resulted in a long evening spent at the hosp on Monday night.

They had to put iodine soaked gauze on the deeper burns and covered with dressings. We could see the burns were oozing today so took the top dressings off but the gauze bit is well and truly stuck to her skin and we have no idea how to get it off.

DD is in a fair bit of pain and sobbing. Dramatic 12 year old syndrome i'm afraidHmm

How do we get it off without tearing the burns. She wont get in the bath because she is so sore all over and they did tell her to wait until Thurs/Fri before having a shower.

Any advice. I'm desperate and she's a mess and i want to watch OBEM in 10 minsGrin

thankyou

Or try the panty liners... That would prob work!

Second the idea of Mepore or Melolin.

I would ring your GP tomorrow. Ours is in a health centre and has a treatment room specifically for dressings, etc. If they don't have one they may be able to advise you.

A girl in my son's year at school fell on a treadmill at about the same age and I remember it was quite nasty for a while. Hope your poor DD is ok

My DS had bad burns on his hands when he was about 8 months old. He had various sterile dressings etc for about a fornight and had to go back ever 4 days to have them changed. Apparently the burns being 'wet' with a whiteish bloom to the skin is the danger sign, so probably the purple is just the healing process. The paediatric burns unit said that once the dressings came off the key thing was to keep the skin moist and mobilised to avoid scarring and as long as the surface was healed within 2 weeks it shouldn't scar.

We had to rub aqueous cream in to the healing skin three times a day for a week or so and 4 months on he has no scars whatsoever.

If they are still 'sticky' I would clingfilm them, bandage on top of the clingfilm and go back in the morning

We used the sanitary towels in the end and DD is happy. All taped up and taken herself off to bed thank goodness.

Back to the Drs tomorrow for proper dressings.

It was my fault she got stuck on the treadmill because i had it backed up against the wall so it didnt throw her off. Poor little soul was trying to crawl up it on her knees to grab the emergency stop cord that should have been clipped to her top!

I had no idea how much damage a treadmill could do in the space of 20 secs or about the rule to leave plenty of space behind it for this exact reason.

Has put her off for life!

Been a stressful night, thanks againSmile
