Ds is 5m he has a hooded foreskin at first thought was hypospadious but is just the foreskin that the prob. He wees straight and has a straight erection. So we've been told today it cosmetic and can choose to either leave it and let him live with it(it looks like a tulip) or circumcise or foreskin repair were they stitch the skin bck together. Been told he won't have probs with sex. If he has an op wud b wen he around 2. Just wondered if any1 has had experience with a hooded foreskin/repair/circumsition?

No experience, but I'd opt for circumcision which although not mainstream normal is a common thing to have and wouldn't raise eyebrows in a communal sports changing room or with a future partner. The chances of the alternative looking normal and working properly are problematical. The foreskin with it's elastic tissues is a very delicate mechanism and I wouldn't bet on stitching it back together being a success. If it's not you are faced with circumcision anyway.

Good luck

Jewson, please beware of Suzannesee's opinion on this. If you search her other posts on this topic you will see that she has quite extreme views on circumcision and recommends it even if there are no problems.

Personally, if it's not causing any problems I would just let it be. I think if something is being done for cosmetic reasons then it should be up to the child to make a decision about it when they are able. He's the one who will have to live with it! :)

I know this is an old thread, but my boy to has a hooded one too no hypodispadia.
He is totally normal and I think I leave any medicle stuuf it up to him when he's older.
But don't think he will need any just cosmetic if he wanted
He has potty trained no problem faster than his brother.
It has lots of nerve endings in so better for him to keep it.
So yes no worries just may look a bit floppy when older but it's Down To your boy , hope he doin good seeing this over a year old.

Old thread yes but I agree with bumble.

In my opinion ALL genitals look very different anyway so as long as its not causing any problems I doubt anyone would really notice.

Just leave it be, everyone is different as already mentioned. Circumcision was horrendous for my ds and not something I would every recommend purely for cosmetic reasons.
