Impetigo?

Hello,

Ds2 is nearly 5. For the last few days he's had a sore bit between his nose and his mouth, he keeps licking it so it's dry and red and also inside his nose looks red and nasty.

He's been sniffing but hasn't really got a runny nose so I'm not sure if it's just the licking making it bad iyswim.

Anyway he's now had a couple of teeny spots by the corner of his mouth and one has got quite big and yucky looking (sorry).

I'm not sure if this is part and parcel of the redness and licking thing or if it might be impetigo?

Just after some opinions really, also if it is, can I take him to the chemist or does it have to be the GP?

Thankyou

It sounds like impetigo to me, I would go to GP to be sure. It is hugely contagious.

Thankyou. Have kept him off school today anyway just in case, well, he's got a temp anyway but I'm unsure if that's related.

Ds1 doesn't have anything like it, so hoping it's not got that far - how on earth do you stop them touching it or licking it? Plasters?

If it is impetigo you need to get some antibiotic cream from GP, in the meantime please make sure that your ds has a towel that only he uses, and put the towels he has been using in the wash.
Impetigo is incredibly contagious but clears up v quickly once you get the cream to treat it.
HTH & good luck

Thankyou so much. I am ashamed to say I have not yet taken him as I have felt so poorly myself...spent the morning in bed Blush It is looking slightly less scary now but I will take him tomorrow just to check.

Could also be cold sore if on edge of mouth. But in case it is impetigo you should get him to gp once you are feeling up to it as may also need oral antibiotics.

Thankyou guys.

Took him this morning as I'm up and about again. (thank goodness!)

Have been given some fucidin cream, though diagnosis was a bit vague, I said I think it's this, he said he'd give us some antibiotic stuff. Which I put on him and then when we got home, realised he has spots everywhere else too Blush so not even sure if it's impetigo or just chicken pox.

Bit of a weird way to start though...never mind. They said the fucidin is good for any spots that get infected, anyway.

Thanks again for your help.

Oh that is really kind, thankyou! He's not too bad in himself, temp right down now thankfully so just the spottiness to contend with Smile

Will all be over in a few days. That's what I keep telling myself!
