Is it Chicken Pox?!

DD who is now 18 months has broken out in spots all over her torso and they're multiplying! I'm pretty sure it's chicken pox but I thought she might be immune to it as i caught it when she was only 3 weeks only and we were both put on anti virals. I was still breast feeding at the time so thought she would have got immunity from that but this doesn't seem to be the case. So annoyed too as I took her to be vaccinated a couple of months ago and my paediatrician said she should have a blood test to check as she's prob immune and I left it because i felt bad about unnecessarily giving her a blood test. Sod's law she gets it!

If it is chicken pox, do I take her to the doc or just buy the normal creams and bath stuff? My DS was vaccinated so i've never had to deal with a poxed child before. help!

I think bf only confers immunity for a few weeks after birth and if she didnt actually get chicken pox when you had it then she wouldnt have got immunity at that point either. I didnt take my two to the doctors when they had it but did phone them to tell them they had it. We used acqueous calamine cream in the spots and piriton to help with the itching

Thanks seona apparently she did get immunity but only for first year. I haven't taken her to the dr. but my pharmacist kindly had a look and says it loons like chicken pox but very mild but he also had a child in last week with the same symptoms but it wasn't chicken pox but a different viral infection. I've got the lotions and potions and bath stuff and also piriton. Poor thing is completely knocked out now. I didn't realise how effective it would be!

Just check about the piriton, I asked the pharmacist in Boots this morning and apparently it's not suitable for children under 6.

So maybe you've got a different sort but do check just in case x

piriton is fine for over 1's. The pharmacist may have been confused about over the counter cough medicines that have been changed to over 6 e.g. calcold, medised, etc

Thankyou Seona, and sorry OP> Looked at what we bought and it's Piriteze, not Piriton. I think i'll have to go back again Sad

Saying that can use the Piriteze on ds1 when he inevitably gets it Smile
