Molluscum Contagiosum

I have done a search on this, but thought it was worth asking again. 4yo DD has them.

I'm thinking about getting this kit, and have made an enquiry with a herbalist.

This goes against everything I believe, but I really want it to go away now!

Oh I have been using comfrey cream for about a fortnight, but it looks worse if anything Confused

Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

My son has them, he's 3, he's had them for about 6months. I've just left well alone. They will go away in time and even if you treat them until the body sorts it out they will just keep coming back.

They fade over time.

pippibluestocking · 10/03/2012 22:39

I know they look unsightly but there is no effective cure other than time. DD has had them for about 6 months and they are just beginning to go now. I wouldn't race around looking for a herbal cure -there isn't one. Just use low conc hydrocortisone to relieve any itching and wait for them to go!

smackapacca · 10/03/2012 22:44

They don't actually itch (luckily). Pippi - can you lonk to a suitable cream please?

I do like a thread encouraging me not to waste money on snake oil

I had this!!
I was about 9, and they covered my legs.
I have a scar on my left hip where the first, and largest, burst. but nothing else from any of all the rest.
By the time i got a dermatology app at the hospital, they had gone...they can be frozen off, but other than unsightly, they cause no pain (other than the huge one that popped...just before it went, it was very sore and rubbed on everything)
dont worry about them, and they do just go on their own xxx

Thanks.

I have just discovered tonight that DD has a wart/veruca/molluscum on her big toe.

If I could ignore the molluscum, I now feel I can't ignore this. D'oh!

DD(11m) has had them since December - 4 in total so far. 3 under her arm, one on tummy. The doctor gave us hydrogen peroxide 1% cream which I think helped dry them out and now the 3 armpit ones have burst and gone and tummy one just hardening over. I've been giving her a fresh vest every morning and evening and a new towel every day to limit the spread. So far so good.

(Manuka honey on them once they burst also seems to have helped - I know some people have found that helped from the start)

smackapacca · 11/03/2012 19:56

OOh Manuka honey - we have some of that!

My dgs has them. He is three. The doc advised against treating them and said they would go eventually. There were some on his face, one near his eye, and this became infected so he was given antibx which cleared it. Apparently it can take a couple of years to go completely but it will go. My DD looked at the herbal remedies kit but decided against it.

Kellamity · 12/03/2012 12:10

DD2 has them under one arm. The skin under them can get a bit red and itchy so we use Epiderm everyday. If they get very red and sore we have some hydrocortisone to apply. DS had them when he was a toddler they took about 18 months to finally go.

paulapantsdown · 12/03/2012 12:13

My DS had them on his tummy when he was 6, about 15.

I decided to do nothing as a friends little girl had them on her face and the mum squeezed them to try and get rid of them and left her little girl covered in scars.

After about 12 months, he went to bed one night and the next morning they had disappeared! Very weird. The same thing then happened with veruccas - he got 3 on one foot - GP said to ignore and 3 months later they just went.

Leave the bodies immune system to resolve I say.

whatkungfuthat · 12/03/2012 15:34

My DS had them when he was 3, he had them for several months before he realised that if he squeezed something came out. They disappeared almost overnight and we only realised he'd been squeezing when he did it to one on his arm and said "no good, nothing there"

ithaka · 12/03/2012 15:41

My oldest girl was covered in them at one stage - when she was about 2-3. We did nothing and they went away. I am not sure how long it took, it was over 10 years ago now, but they just vanished completely.

Little one did have few, and also some warts on her fingers. I adopted my patented 'ignore and it will go away' response and lo and behold, it all did.

Putting ointments on will be entirely for your benefit, it will make you feel you are doing something (and spending some money unneccessarily) but they won't go until they are ready. Ignore, ignore.

smackapacca · 13/03/2012 22:57

Thank-you all. I had a reply from the herbalist, but think I'll just continue using up the random creams that I had for treating chicken pox instead.

I agree that treating it is just for my benefit. Wish it would just go away!

DS had them when he was about 2 all over and they lasted for about 3 years, although he is all clear now.

We did squeeze some and they disapeared and left no scar, the trick is to get the hard white lump out of the middle - we did this on the advice of the Dr.
