Advice needed for possible baby eczema.

My DS (20 weeks) has some patches of dry skin on his legs that could well be eczema. I'm loathe to take him to the GP because of friends previous experiences with various GP's none of whom seemed to know much at all! The HV I used to see, who said she was a skin specialist, used to recommend Aveeno, so this is what I've been using so far. It doesn't seem to be too effective though.

I wash him with usually just water, and he has a bath with Aveeno oil in each evening. I rarely use baby wipe (only if we're out).

Any advice gratefully received.

Well DS had extreme eczema so I figure I know a thing or two. The main thing I learnt is that different things work for different people. People will swear by various products but don't feel disappointed if it doesn't.

Aveno did not work for DS. I found that water irritated him so I kept bathing to a minimum. Obviously you sometimes have to bathe a baby but I didn't if I could avoid it.
If it becomes inflamed and blistery you may need a steroid - ointment much better than cream I fouind - and the lesson I learnt here is not to be afraid to use it as it will mean you will use less in the long run. Haviong said that DS was pretty severe.

When looking for a moisturiser I would avoid any with nut oils (other than coconut) - several use almond oil. Eczema sufferers tend to be more prone to allergies.

I found 'allergenics' good for my own eczema and creams with liquorice root.

we used balneum in the bath (bit sticky to clear out) and aqueous cream as a moisturiser.
