Last Tuesday DD had to take the day off school, her cough was awful & very chesty she had no sleep the night before. Today i got a call from the school: DD had been sick. Thats really really unlike her. She had been quiet this morning at school, then went a grey colour at lunchtime, became very clingy with one of the teachers (really unlike her) & was then sick. When i took DD home she got very upset but i noticed her lips went a deep purple colour. I got some water & to suck some ice cubes & that seemed to help a little. She hasnt been sick since touch wood. But its only been 2 hours. She just said to me she wants to go to sleep & as i put her trousers on her i noticed you could see purple veins & her legs & feet are cold. I pulled the duvet & blanket over her & her lips are purple again, nose is bright red & dark circles around her eyes. Shes never been like this before & shes certainly never nodded off within 2 mins of hitting the pillow. Im worried.

Call your gps or out of hours service. I'm a str

VivaLeBeaver · 06/03/2012 16:00

Ring your GP surgery now and tell them that you're worried and that you'd like an emergency appt this afternoon. It may well be nothing other than a bad virus but if you're worried then you need to get her seen today if only for reassurance. Blue lips sounds like she might be struggling with her breathing, so maybe some sort of bad chest infection???????

DoodleAlley · 06/03/2012 16:01

Sorry not sure why that posted.

As I was saying I'm a strong believer in your intuition about your children's health.

Better now than worrying over night. At worse you're a pushy parent with a calm mind. But I think you're reasonable to ask for medical advice

fatsatsuma · 06/03/2012 16:02

It may be nothing, but as your instinct is telling you something is wrong, I think you should trust that instinct and get her seen today by a GP/OOH. Failing that NHS Direct.

DoodleAlley · 06/03/2012 16:04

Have you checked her for symptoms of meningitis? I don't think she has them all but blue lips and cold hands and feet can be a sign (as well as being many other things I'm sure) but it reinforces the need to seek medical advice.

PurplePidjin · 06/03/2012 16:04

NHS Direct, the purple lips may be sign she's not getting enough oxygen and the operator will send you an ambulance if you need it.

ZhenThereWereTwo · 06/03/2012 16:07

What you describe sounds like pneumonia, she is not getting enough oxygen, take her to A&E.

Emmielu · 06/03/2012 16:11

I'd call the docs and get an emergency appointment for her.

Emmielu · 06/03/2012 16:29

Shes fine now. Her breathing is fine. Her skin is its usualy pale colour. Temperature is good.
