DS 5 86 centile for weight - should I be worried?

He had his height and weight measured at school last month and we had a letter saying that his weight was in the 'healthy' range, which goes up to 90 centile, so he's pretty close.
Does it matter that he's at the top end? He was a big, long baby (10lbs) and both DH and I are taller and heavier than average so I guess it's genes?

At a rough conversion it sounds pretty much like he's stayed where he was born as he would certainly have been above the 50th centile at birth. They only became concerned with my DD's growth when she started dropping away from the centile she was born on.

What's his height? My Dd is around the 85th centile for weight at 5 but she is on the 98th for height so is actually very slim...it makes a difference

What's his height?

4.10yr old dd is at the top of the charts for weight. But is on exactly the same line for height. So she's perfectly proportioned. Is your child healthy? What does he look like? DD might weigh more than average but she's tall, slim, muscular and very fit. I don't need centiles to tell me this but they do back up the fact that she's in proportion.

He's 1.92 m and 5 in 2 weeks.

1.92m is well over 6 feet, if he is that tall he should weigh a bit more Grin

Seona1973 · 03/03/2012 09:32

I dont think he can be 1.92m as that is over 6ft tall!

Seona1973 · 03/03/2012 09:35

my ds came up as over the 90th centile but as his height was in the 90's too he is in proportion although the letter said he was overweight (although he doesnt look it). It is standing him in good stead this week as he has a D&V bug and isnt eating anything

earthpixie · 03/03/2012 09:36

oops 1.092

Does his height and weight match on the centiles or is there a large discrepancy? What does he look like to you? Is he slim?

Sorry, I can't do metres in my head.

earthpixie · 03/03/2012 10:41

He does look a bit chunky but then, I'm not that familar with other kids' bodies as he's an only.
I think we'll just keep an eye on things and make sure he stays in the healthy range. I strongly suspect that he'll always be 'well-covered'. None of my family are skinny - DH's are though.

Most BMI calculators dont work for children but here's one that does: his BMI should be 24.9 or less unless he is of unusually athletic/muscular build for his age.

fortyplus · 03/03/2012 10:50

He shouldn't be more than 20kg

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/03/2012 10:54

i think i worked out that he is on the 50th for height, so worth keeping an eye but if they have said he is OK then thats fine :)
