Hi

Will try & make a long story short - my little boy was recently seen in hospital for viral tonsilitus, and whilst there the nurse picked up on (and I quote) "He has an odd anatomy." He believed he isn't growing right as he has been the same weight for months on end. Have taken him to GP, who instantly did a referral for the childrens specialist. Playgroup have noticed a change in his behaviour, more tired and cuddly etc. However, having received a phone call today I have been told that I have to wait until 3rd May to get him seen. Is this reasonable? What can I do? Is there anything I can do to get him seen sooner? Desparately worried. Advice please.......

I found my lo weight plateaued about three. He lost all his baby and puppy fat with being so active. Ds1 doesn't stop from the minute he gets up until he goes to bed.

However, the winter turns him into a bear needing hibernation. He hates going out, just wants to sit on the couch and wait til spring!

I wouldn't worry too much. If they thought he needed an urgent appointment, you would have been given one.

Has his eating, sleeping, or physical activity changed much? Is he happy on himself?

If he's Been I'll in hospital with tonsillitis then he would have lost a little weight then too?

Hope it all gets sorted for you x

at that age i wouldnt be overly worried.as boys said they run around so much at that age they burn off verything.my ds is a skinny little herbert.has been since day one.eats like a horse!

being unwell makes them more lethargic long as hes eating and has energy i think its just the way hes built.some doctors like to err on the side of caution.

when my ds fell off the centile chart hospital saw him following week-found nothing wrong

my only suggestion if hes tired would be to check hes eating enough iron rich foods?

MummyCeo · 03/03/2012 23:34

Really struggle with his eating. One day he puts away a reasonable amount, then the next hardly anything. He is sitting around a lot more, and tells me he want sto go to sleep, even if he's only been up an hour, like this morning. He is also very white a lot of the time, and very much more clingy and wanting carrying, which is entirely unlike him.

Go back and see the gp. Either he can put your mind at rest or start running a few basic tests -blood, urine - to rule out simple stuff like iron deficiency

winnybella · 03/03/2012 23:44

Did the GP do any blood tests? That's what needs to be done first.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 04/03/2012 04:50

Agree it could be iron deficiency, or that plus something else?

Maybe start giving him a decent daily vitamin, and a complan for kids type drink once a day? Just in the meantime while you're waiting to be seen. just so he's getting a chance to get the vitamins and minerals he needs if his eating is a bit erratic.

I would say though to trust your instincts and if you feel that he can't wait two months, then go back to the go and ask them to start the basic tests, just to rule things out.

Let us know how you get on x

MummyCeo · 04/03/2012 23:42

Thanks for advice. Will speak to GP tomorrow and ask about basic tests that can be done at the surgery.

Ok, GP has written another letter in an attempt to speed process up, so will continue to wait. Not much else I can do!!
