Dd had a terrible time of it before christmas, was off school several times with quite nasty chest infections. She had several courses if antibiotics was given in inhaler (blue) and was nebulized and put on a course of steriods also. Her attendance at school dropped to 84%. Since Christmas things have been better until last wednesday when she was diagnosed with another chest infection. The dr's gave more antibiotics (7 days worth) and said they need to think preventative so have put her on the lowest dose of clenil modulate. She seems very tired bless her, she came home from school on wednesday and went to bed an hour early.
Yesterday she seemed fine after school so dh said she could go to her club which doesn't finish till 8. I was skeptical but he said she was fine so I gave in.
This morning she was very whingy, very tired. I took her to school and they rang me at 10 to come pick her up as she was falling asleep in her class. She went straight to bed and is still sleeping there now. She has been asleep practically all day.

Should she really be this tired. I know the clenil modulate takes some time to kick in but the antibiotics should have done their thing for now surely. She is still white coughy and I don't know if i should take her back to the docs or wait and see.
What do you think?

Sorry for the mammoth post, and any mistakes, typing on my phone which is a bit of a pita.

You don't say how old she is, but sounds like the poor mites system has taken quite a battering, so I would imagine being so wiped out whilst still fighting an infection, after only just recovering from others is pretty normal.

My only similar experience is that own DD had Pneumonia at 5, she was wiped out for months, really not recovering & put on part time School as a result - she's had a few chest infections since & each time, despite her being very stoic & loving school, she has been totally wiped out

Thankfully on the advice of a friend, I looked into & started her on Spirulina - its a superfood you can buy in pill form - All Seasons is the best brand as less powdery & therefore more palatable for DCs - when DD was 5 I used to cut into 1/4s, now at 9 she can take them whole - a bit more than a week of 3 of these a day & she was back to her old self & back coping with full time school -

Spirulina is vitamin & mineral packed & contains a rare enzyme that boosts immunity info here-

After antibiotics I would also recommend giving "Viridian Childrens Stomach Flora" - anti Bs also kill of the good bacteria in the gut & apparently there's a lot of evidence that the gut plays an important part in immunity, so replacing the good bacteria can likely help her too info here

I mix the Viridia powders into a teaspoon of Manuka Honey - also good for gut health & immunity & sore throats too - (Aldis have 10+ very cheap at the moment)

DD has had years of problems & this is what I've found has worked best for her

Poor thing, if she is getting regular infections I would ask for a chest x ray and another when she is better to make sure it's clear

If it is infection the brown inhaler won't necesserily help with the infection it is normally used to help with asthma symptoms

Thanku I've never heard of it but will go on a hunt for some at our local health food store.
She will be 6 in july. I do feel so sorry for her, she seems to be having a rough time with it, she is still asleep at the moment. I wish I'd stuck to my guns and said she couldn't go out, but she seems to be missing out on quite a lot at the moment.

Sirzy I think they are looking at the cause of all the chest infections and considering asthma as a possibility, I cant be one hundred percent sure as dh took her to the docs last, when she was given the brown inhaler and he didnt query or push the doc for a diagnosis just accepted the prescription, perhaps I should take her back and ask them to look into it more, she has never had a chest x-ray or any other tests they just keep throwing meds at her.

Sorry I'm coping with chest infection myself right now, so not quite with it - Sirzy is right - DD has blue inhaler to use whenever she is struggling - the brown is the preventative one - I'd second asking for an Xray - or take her up to A&E - I found that was the only way my own DD got proper diagnosis when she had pneumonia - not saying thats what yours has, but it could do with ruling out

the other stuff I posted will help boost her system, but she does need proper medical care too

poor mite, hope shes better soon

& as an extra - if shes choking at all - COLD air is what she needs - breath in freezer etc - I was told this by the hospital - they reckoned it was taking er out into the cold that saved her life
