Is there any benefit to 'Flouride Varnishing'?

I have been offered an appointment (through local sure start play group), for dd2 aged 3 to have her teeth varnished with flouride by a dentist. I am a little unsure about the necessity as we already live in an area where the water is flouridated and we use flouride toothpaste twice a day. Is it really necessary? I have never heard of the process before today and my older children were not offered it.

Is this common now?

In Scotland we are advised to use a fluoride toothpaste of at least 1000ppm from the first tooth appearing. I have never heard to avoid fluoride for under 2s in the UK.

Not offered to all children here but two of mine have had it due to decay in baby teeth - it has been beneficial

Yep in the UK. I read about the fluoride and the neurotoxin issue after being told about it (peer reviewed journal not Google) and there is an evidenced based link between fluoride and neuro developmental issues. Lower IQ and cancers etc. It's on the list of neurotoxins with mercury etc
