Ds has had soft/ runny nappies for just over a week now.

He's had a bad cold which has caused him to be sick once due to coughing, and he's dribbling like crazy. He just got his last four molars to come through at the back.

Two questions really, he seems happy enough in himself, but how long do I leave it before taking him to the doctors?

And he was back at nursery today after being off for most of last week, he come back with a terribly sore bum today and when I collected him he was sitting in a dirty nappy which I got them to change before we left.

Tomorrow I'm going to speak to them about washing him with warm water and cotton wool and have bought some metanium, will also being giving a poke about ensuring he's changed as quickly as possible.

Is there anything else I can do to make him more comfortable and help his nappy rash?

Citric acid from fruit juice doesn't help but keeping him dry and hydrated with water if possible and my doctor recommended canesten thrush cream when nappy rash is bad! I would say if stools are just soft leave another few days but if really runny doctors tomorrow as its already been a few days although teething does cause loose stools but better to be safe then sorry what's the harm in the doctors really! Hope dc better and more comftable soon x

The BRAT diet - bananas, rice, apples and toast.

Puree the bananas and apples and feed with the toast and rice every four hours throughout the day.

Put dried milk in a warm bath to sooth his sore bum and leave the nappy off for as long as possible. Do not use oil or cream just fresh air and maybe rose water as a cleanser for a pooey nappy.

Hope he is ok. Smile

Thanks for the advice.

His key worker was back in nursery today and seems to have done a much better job with keeping him dry.

She said that she happy it's not diahorrea as its not runny enough, so could be the result of teething or cold.

We talked about trying him with just a bit of toast and banana to see if it helps at all, if it's not improved in a couple of days will take him to the doctors.
