Please does anyone have any advice? Sorry if TMI.

DD has had a bug since Friday. Violent Sickness and diarrhoea on Friday, lethargy yesterday but no S or D. She was in the bath this morning and urgently needed the loo and it obviously stings like acid :(

Have been trying lots of fluids, bananas and toast but she hardly has an appetite. She is allergic to eggs. Have also started acidophilus powders. I even looked at the germaloids pack but its 12 years + and anyway she is allergic to Lidocaine.

Does anyone please have any advice? It would be gratefully received.

Can you put some sudocrem on her bottom if you have any? Loads of it?

BlueBumedFly · 26/02/2012 10:21

Yes we are doing but many thanks for posting, I think she is now so scared of going she is trying to hold back which is of course making it worse I'm sure :(

Any barrier cream is better than none. Vaseline would be OK.
Can you get to a chemist and ask for a local anaesthetic suitable for a child?
I got my DD something in a yellow tube when she had tiny cracks in her anus.
I also found that she pood better in the bath, since the water could dilute it a bit.
Not much fun scooping and rinsing, but it helped her. Obviously she had to be showered after. So more work for Mum.

metanium for her bottom and get her some dhioralyte, lots of water to drink. Sad

Liskey · 26/02/2012 10:41

Yellow cream in a tube is possibly metanium i would think as use it on DD when she gets a sore bottom and its very good. Your poor DD hope she gets better soon.

BlueBumedFly · 26/02/2012 10:55

Thank you ladies - will pop to the chemist for some metanium.

get some dyhoralyte aswell

BlueBumedFly · 26/02/2012 11:44

Just tried Dioralyte Blackcurrent which is according to DD 'really really really really yucky' managed to get half a sachet down but not having a bar of any more. Oh well better than nothing I guess. Cannot even bribe with chocolate as the online advice says no dairy other than yogurts, not that she even likes yogurt. Sigh.

Try dyoralite relief, raspberry flavour and no salty taste. My gp recommended it for children.

LadyEmmaHamilton · 26/02/2012 12:44

What about if she were to drink the diaoralyte through a straw? Might get it far enough back in her mouth that it didn't taste so bad. Or flat
Coke. Clearly not ideal for every day, but needs must and more palatable.

BlueBumedFly · 26/02/2012 13:53

Two great ideas .. Off to raid the cupboard under the stairs for straws and coke.... I'm going in, I could be some time ...

Flat 7up or Sprite are good for replacing electrolytes and more palatable than diarolyte.Dont worry about food-dry toast is best to start with.Dont use toilet paper on her bum just the mildest wipes or even cotton wool and warm water.Pat dry and use any good nappy rash cream.Poor little thing-I had this with chemotherapy and it was one of the worst side effects-it really burns :(

BlueBumedFly · 26/02/2012 18:30

Fab thank you but so sorry you had to have chemo :(

Got half a raspberry Dioralyte down (far better than the Blackcurrent so many thanks for that tip PaigeTurner!!) and a few inches of fat flat coke. Metanium is on and she looks almost human :) no sobbing at last loo visit so we are making good progress. She even had some boiled rice and a banana. Will keep 7-up in mind for next time (god forbid!!).

Now, next question, how do I dissuade her from watching the Lion King for the umpteenth time!! :)
