So not only does she have reduced hearing but she also has rhinitis. How could I not have known any of this. I am fucking rubbish and feel so shit about it all. I really do feel like an idiot and so sorry for dd. Yes I know neither of them are tge end of tge world. I know tgat grommets and adenoids are not either. I just feel like I have failed her.

Does anyone know how soon we should see an improvement ?

My sister had very bad rhinitis as a child, she has grown out of it now.

I don't know any other way to offer you help, though there is no way you failed her.

Good luck with it all :)

My son also has it and I had no idea, so please don't feel bad. He's also had 2 sets of grommets and recently had his adenoids out and the rhinitis seems to have improved. We live in Hong Kong and he was prescribed something called Dimetapp, not sure if it's the same brand in the UK, but it really helped dry out his nose and make him feel better.

It really is not your fault. We had some really lax care in the UK including from Harley street consultant ENTs so if they get it wrong, please don't feel bad. Have you had her adenoids removed? DS had a quick head xray which showed his were enlarged, and putting pressure on his Eustachian tube therefore the existing grommets couldn't function properly. Adenoids out, new tubes in, and all we now hear is 'what's that noise?'. He's hearing well for the first time in his life.

PM me if you want any more info. I've been going through this with DS for 2.5 years in addition to his development delay and speech delay. It's tough, but we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel finally now he's 4.

Ds had it in the autumn. He kept complaining about the scarey noise. I thought he was talking about the humming noise the freezer makes. Blush. Only realised when he queried why he could hear the freezer at school.

It lasted about 2 weeks, and only returned (briefly) once since. You may like to let the school know as ds found behaving very difficult at school as he got very frustrated with it.

Oops sorry read it as tinnitus Blush

is this linked to dustmite allergy? as that is very common. a child shouldnt snore all the time. iyswim. indicates rhinitis.

lots of things you can do to control this if its allergy related.

Thanks everyone. Well dd has been taking her medicine for two nights and one day, she had a nap today which is unusual but dh and I could straight away tell she was sleeping better.

Dh found all of this a bit tough to hear as like me it was a shock but after just this short time we can see an improvement in lots of ways.

Thanks for you support and experiences, I have been reading but needed some time. Hopefully this might even mean she won't need her adinoids removed when we see the ENT clinic and tgat we are well on our way before tge SALT appt in April. Thanks again Thanks
