Cradle cap treatments - not dentinox

My little man (8weeks) got a little bit of cradle cap and I was using olive oil. It wasn't getting any better so the health visitor advised me to use detinox on him but it just got worse and worse so I stopped it and went back to olive oil.

Since then it's eased off a fair bit but it still looks really sore :( he even has a little cut where he must have been rubbing his head and a bits come off.

Does anyone know anything else I can use? I've asked gp and 3 pharmacists who've been no help.

Advice from my granny was to wash a baby's hair with baby soap (Johnson's bar) when my first got it. It cleared it and none of my others ever had it because I used baby soap from the off.

I used sweet almond oil (easily got from the pharmacy) on both dds. It didn't get rid of it immediately, but it soothed their scalps, smelled nice (and not like a salad Grin) and the cradle cap rubbed off very easily after a little while.

Thanks! I'll try the almond oil first, I'm a bit reluctant with soap him, can't even use wipes on him!

Also get a little soft baby hair brush and brush the head, it brings blood to the scalp and will help everything to shift and heal.

I found that dentinox shampoo also made my dcs cradle cap worse.i've tried olive oil left on all day, dentinox, normal baby shampoo, capasal shampoo... The best one I have found is called ceanel. I asked the chemist to get it in for me and cost a five. One thing I would say is that use a baby comb to gently scrape off the scales. Sudocrem might be good for the sore head to stop infection.

Our GP recommended solid coconut oil. I had to ask for it at the chemist. I massaged it on dry hair and it released quite a lot of the flakes. More came off when I washed my daughters hair. It took a few weeks to get rid of all of the cradle cap but this did the trick.

I used vaseline on DD - left her to sleep with it on (made a right mess Grin), but it got rid of the cradle cap.

DS had a little bit of this - I used no product on his head to wash it but just rubbed (gently) with a towel after his bath to loosen the flakes then put olive oil on his head before bed. Seemed to do the trick. I brush his head with a soft brush too.

My friends ds had it and she used a nitty gritty comb and it was gone within a couple of weeks.

Coconut oil is great. If its bad you will need a few days for it to clear up. Put it on before bath, let it sit, then using a soft brush and warm water try loosen it before using a really mild soap (not J&J!).

After bath apply some more to moisturise and leave it on.

J&J gave my DS a dry skin rash and flaky skin! I switched to aveeno cream post bath.
Olive oil in hair before bath (3-4 hrs), gently wash off with aqueous cream (can work as shampoo/soap but not recommended for use in dry skin). Brush well but gently with a soft bristle brush.
No cradle cap!
