I'd keep it and take it and her to the docs

Imnotaslimjim · 23/02/2012 08:24

Definitely needs looking at, did you keep them? If not, grab the next one (cos there likely will be one) and let the Dr see it

FannyFifer · 23/02/2012 08:28

Keep it and go to the GP.

YuleingFanjo · 23/02/2012 08:30

anything like this?

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 23/02/2012 08:34

Yes very like that oh Lordy. And we all had threadworms last year. They're going to think we're manky aren't they Blush

Doc didn't seem to think it was worms but didn't offer another explanation Confused

She gave me a prescription and said it was up to me.. Dd is over tired, circles under eyes and runny poo last few days so I think I'll treat her, what do you think?

FundusCrispyPancake · 23/02/2012 14:54

YuleingFanjo that worm is shown as seen down a microscope! They are tiny in real life and it is impossible to see them in poo. Smile

fisharefriends if you see another, pick it out , put it in a pot and take it to the GP. Get them to send it to Pathology where a Microbiologist will have a look at it.

We can easily tell if it is a worm of some kind, but often things people think are worms turn out to be undigested vegetable matter (e.g. beansprouts).

HTH

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 23/02/2012 14:59

Findus I took it to doc and she said that she didn't think it was a worm as it broke up easy. Do you think I should treat the dc anyway?

I think it sounds like the lining of bowel coming away, very normal especially after bout of diahrea. Have experienced it my self and also took dd to gp after simialr incident and dr explained to me it is very common and a sign on of healing from a a bateria in bowels. I wouldnt bother treating for worms.

cybbo · 23/02/2012 15:14

Thread worms are tiny- like threads of white cotton about a cm long. Very hard to see in poo

That wasnt a threadworm that you found

FundusCrispyPancake · 23/02/2012 15:14

fishare friends can't say for sure if it was a worm or not without seeing it. It would be very unprofessional of me to advise you on treatment.

Can only say if you see any more then take it to the GP again and ask for it to be sent.

Sorry I can't be more help than that Blush.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 23/02/2012 15:15

I know it wasn't threadworms. Don't know, she seems so unwell in herself Confused

OP posts:
FundusCrispyPancake · 23/02/2012 15:16

Sorry - I can't say for sure...

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 23/02/2012 15:19

Understood, thanks Findus. Would treating her cause any harm if she doesn't have worms. It was huge, about 3 to 4 inches long fwiw

Methe · 23/02/2012 15:20

We all had worms recently and none of us were ill at all and the worms were very very small and white. The treatment was one pill and none of us had any side effects from it. I think if I were you'd id treat for worms whatever happens.

Have you looked at google for images of intestinal worms, that might give you more help than a dr?

FundusCrispyPancake · 23/02/2012 15:23

Not a good idea to google 'intestinal worms', you will scare the crap out of yourself !

Some of them are truly horrid, especially down a microscope! Shock

Methe · 23/02/2012 15:25

was it segmented?

Methe · 23/02/2012 15:25

Oh and yy the pictures are pretty grim!

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 23/02/2012 15:26

No I don't think so. Was a long soft gloopy thing, transparent kind of like egg white but with a brown/ red line through the centre of it

OP posts:
FundusCrispyPancake · 23/02/2012 15:43

It could just be mucus.

The prescription might not be specifically for treatment of worms, it could be something the GP prescribed for diarrhoea or any of her other symptoms.

If you are still concerned about your DD, go back to your GP.

Please don't try to self-diagnose using google! Wink

loopydoo · 23/02/2012 15:51

Okay - I once rushed baby DS off to the GP saying that his baby poo was full of moving worm like things. Turns out, it was banana fibre. Really jelly-like with red/brown bits through. It only looked like it was moving because I had been staring at it for so long!

Has your DD had banana recently?

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 23/02/2012 16:31

We eat banana a lot actually. Argh!! Think I'll wait a couple of days and see how she is
