Urgent: my 3 years old DD is screaming with front bottom pain.

She rubbed soap in her front bottom 45 mins ago and has been screaming as if she is in agony. I have washed it and washed it but she is still screaming. Sitting in a luke warm bath brings some relief but as soon as I get her out she screams and shakes with pain.

I have no idea what to do. Any advice appreciated.

Have you got any nappy rash cream - Sudocrem or Bepanthen etc?

AubergineKenobi · 21/02/2012 18:36

I have sudocre and put it on but it seemed to have no effect. She says the pain is inside but I'm not sure what she means by that.

Canesten? Soothing, and won't do any harm.

Poor thing!

3cutedarlings · 21/02/2012 18:39

Could she have put something inside her vagina? little girls like to explore at this age, soap down there should not make her scream like you describe, unless she has a scratch or something?

ILoveAFullFridge · 21/02/2012 18:40

If you've put Sudocrem on then there's no point putting anything else on for several hours - the Sudocrem is a barrier. I doubt it would be good to aggravate the area again by trying to wash it off.

QuickLookBusy · 21/02/2012 18:40

I would sit her back in the bath again.

She may have a bit of soap still wedged somewhere. Maybe sitting in the bath will rinse it away.

If it doesn't work, phone NHS direct.

AubergineKenobi · 21/02/2012 18:42

Oh my God the screaming. Should I take her to A&E? I have never seen her in such a state.

She is in the bath. Otherwise she gets hysterical. Other daughter now screaming due to all the screaming.

Get her back in hte bath, you said that brings some relief.

Then phone NHS direct. I think the soap must still be stinging her, covering it in sudocream wouldn't have helped. Put her back in the bath.

QuickLookBusy · 21/02/2012 18:44

Sorry x posted.

Phone NHS direct.

3cutedarlings · 21/02/2012 18:45

Agree, back in bath and call NHS direct, or out of hours doctors. Have you had a good look does she look red at all?

RaisingEmbers · 21/02/2012 18:45

My DD (4) gets like this from time to time, especially if she has had a different bubble bath or soap etc. the only thing that seems to calm it down quickly is a cold wet flannel, and then a huge great big dollop of aqueous cream, just slathered on, it seems to stay cold and reduce the stinging.
Hope she recovers quickly.

AubergineKenobi · 21/02/2012 20:34

Thanks for all your advice. I ended up calling a local paediatrician friend for advice. V kindly she dropped by and had a look. DD2 has for some time had something called labial adhesions which means her inner lips are fused. We think Soap had somehow got behind the fused skin. DD2 finally calmed down about 30 mins ago so I guess its shifted. Phew!

Oh the poor little thing, that sounds so painful. So glad she's more comfortable.Perhaps liquid body was from now on Aubergine, might not get "stuck" near her. So glad she's ok.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 21/02/2012 20:44

*wash.

ZhenThereWereTwo · 21/02/2012 20:49

Poor thing, glad it has washed its way out now. You do not need to use soap on your vulva or vagina to keep it clean, so it might be best to stick to just warm water in future to avoid it happening again.

3cutedarlings · 21/02/2012 20:52

Oh bless her poor little thing Sad Hope shes ok now.

QuickLookBusy · 21/02/2012 20:55

Glad she isn't in pain anymore.

Bet you are all exhausted now, hope you are settling down with a Wine or a Brew
