Body odour in 8 year old

DD1 (8) has developed really noticable body odour recently. Any ideas what could be causing this and any tips to help her as she is becoming very self conscious. She bathes/showers daily and clothes are all regularly washed. Have tried the deodorant stone thing which was ineffective. Really don't want to have her using deodorant from such a young age but the smell is very noticeable. Can't bear to think that this is puberty! Thanks in advance for any advice.

The same thing happened with my DD at that age, literally overnight. We were in a shop after school one day and I could smell BO. After the stink followed me for a while, it dawned on me and I rushed home to put her in the shower!

It doesn't neccessarily mean the whole puberty thing- it was another 5 years before her periods started- but deodorant began that day. No harm done.

Thank you

Is she actually washing properly when she showers/ bathes? My DS at that age could sometimes shower and get wet but not actually scrub his whole body with soap. He was quite selective.

my now 11 yr got a bit stinky at 8, she's just starting puberty now, so it was possibly a start of the whole process...
I started her off using deoderants from Lush, but as she is an active soap dodger.... Hmm
we have moved onto more 'adult' deoderants, and the stench is kept at bay

Agree with others that children don't always wash well enough under their arms at this age - daily soaping with a friction mitt can get to the bottom of sweaty armpits for a while longer, IME.

DD (seven years younger) drew helpful little pictures for DSS2 when he was afflicted with BO aged about 10, to show him how to wash Hmm

My DD got stinky at about 8 or 9 and we had to start her on deodorant. Washing under the arms wasn't enough - she would smell by later in the day Confused, and you don't want her to have to wash under the arms several times a day.

My DD who is now 9 pretty much began stinking last year. i bought roll ons but the smell didn't go, then found out she didn't like roll on but wanted spray so bought her some bionsen spray, we don't use chemicals unless we really have to. There are plenty of other natural deos other than pit rock (which doesn't work for me at all btw), such as Tom's of Maine (Waitrose and Sainb'ys), Bionsen (almost everywhere) and plenty of online choice too. Good luck :-)

I found a sure 'girl' deodorant which smells lovely. Getting her to use it is a remind remind remind but that's the same for everything with her!!

i started on the deo at 8- for her sake, i'd just buy her some.
