Urine infection?

DS complained of a sore willy (but pointed to his balls) last week when out with my parents. He's 3.3
They noticed frequent weeing. I was dismissive as he'd had a big drink before seeing them.
However, this week I've noticed him weeing a lot. He's even had 1 accident a day for the last 3 days (very unusual, he's just not got to loo / potty in time).
On Tues he wanted a new nappy on rather than pants when he got up (I insisted on pants but I wonder if it's because he's having trouble holding it in).
I've noticed his nappies are very very full in the morning, for at least the last 5 days.
He hasn't mentioned willy pain but I don't ask as I don't want him to pretend / tell fibs, I think that if it hurts he'll tell me.

He's got a stinky cold on top of this so I put down the weeing to extra fluids as he's probably drinking more due to having a cold, although I haven't noticed excessive drinking myself.

He's feeling very rough, calling out at least 3 times a night but doesn't have a temp.
He's pretty grumpy and has had to have a nap during the day on non nursery days.

Should I get him checked out?

I have been told in the past (by a doctor) that it is very unusual for boys to have urine infections.

Perhaps this is down to having a cold but I think if any symptoms go on longer than three days then the usual advice is to go to the doctor.

Hopefully it will all just pass in its own time, good luck.

It is unusual for a boy to get a water infection, but is still possible. I would get a sample passed in to the dr to be dipped just to see if anything comes up. Offer lots of clear water to help clear it. Though if he's weeing a lot rather than needing to go a lot (having an infection makes you more urgent) then it could simply be he is drinking more to combat feeling dry from the cold

Oh, has he lost any weight or asking for more drinks? If so, consider diabetes as a possibilty (not saying it is, just saying frequent and heavy urination is a sign of type 1)

I don't think he's lost weight but will keep an eye out. DH's dad has been type 1 since about 35 I think so it's in the family.
My "unknown" is the volume he's taking in. I've rung nursery to get them to monitor intake.
He's definitely going more frequently than normal and some have been huge in volume. I'll have him tomorrow so can monitor myself.
In the evenings I haven't noticed an increase in fluid intake but he does like to drink bath water Wink

How bad would he need to get before you take him to the doctor's?

Actually, paediatric A&E would be better, since they can take immediate action to ease his suffering.

Rang GP and I'll be having a telephone consultation this afternoon Smile
That's the thing, he doesn't seem to be suffering / in pain. He only mentioned a sore willy the once and that was Monday. His grumpiness seems to be from his cold & cough.
Of course I can't be certain of that which is why I'm having a niggle about it. Hopefully GP will agree to a urine test which I can drop off tomorrow and we'll soon know.

Good for you both! Hope it all gets better soon.

Grin GP just rang. Leaving a sample thing at reception and a script for abs. Got to get sample in morning first, then start abs.
Abs are just precautionary until we know results.
Fingers crossed its nothing, and I'd it is, this'll sort it.
It was the best GP there thank goodness, he's lovely.
Thanks lovely ladies xxxxx Grin
