Hi There,
I am starting this thread to see if there is anyone on here in a similar situation that can offer any help/ advice or support. After a near-on perfect pregnancy,my first child was born ten days late in July. Despite having meconium stained waters I was left to continue with my 47 hour (??) labour without intervention and eventually gave birth to a seemingly healthy baby boy. After a few hours it became apparent that his breathing was laboured and he was admitted into the SCBU for tests. Long story short, my son was diagnosed with Meconium Aspiration Syndrome and remained in hospital for a further month.
He is now 7 months old and despite no longer having an infection in his lungs,he is STILL dependant on 0.2 litres of oxygen 24 hours a day. As time is wearing on the shock of having a "sick baby" is being replaced by so many questions! How did this happen? Is there anyone else out there who has suffered the same problems? Every support group for babies dependant on home oxygen is aimed at parents of premature babies and I'm finding so little information out there. It is so frustrating to look at my seemingly healthy boy and wonder how this happened?
I would really appreciate hearing from anybody who has a situation remotely similar. Every day I am thankful that my baby boy is alive and developing well but sometimes I really do get angry with the situation and would like to hear I am not alone in this :-(
