Anyone got a child with IBS?

Posted a while ago but didnt get a lot of response.

Anyone care to share meals, packed lunch ideas etc? Dd reacts to citrus fruits along with the usual suspect food but the internet seems to be full of contradictory information on what is okay to eat and what isnt.

I know this question is a little old, but I was using the search function for some similar help and stumbled across it - I saw you'd had no response.

My DD (7) has just has this diagnosis after a negative test for Coeliac disease and the GP has recommended a low fibre diet as she has been getting a lot of loose stools (not quite liquid, but very loose and pale) and severe cramps - she has missed loads of school :( .

She has Mebeverine to stop the spasms (partial success I suppose) and Imodium to try and stop the runs! This has not started working yet as we've only just started.

I suppose white bread, white pittas, white wraps, white pasta (get the picture!) or cream crackers with cheese/ham/chicken would be ok in lunches.

I think it's going to be tricky as we generally eat a higher fibre diet as my older DD is more inclined the other way IYSWIM?

I think the type of diet depends on the type of IBS, those inclined to diarrhoea (sp) benefit from low fibre and those inclined to constipation need more fibre, but I think it should be soluble fibre rather than insoluble, although I'm not too clued up on the difference.

Hope you find some good lunch ideas, please post them if you do!

Hello I know this is an old post but wondered if you had any luck with food ideas , my daughter also has been diagnosed with IBS and we are struggling daily to find foods that she doesn’t react with . She also had very loose stools , that are sometimes acidic , and constant accidents it’s a nightmare !

I would highly recommend going to see a nutritionist, as she may have a food intolerance. This is not the same as an allergy but can cause digestive upset and distress. In my experience GPs are terrible at considering nutritional aspects and will label any digestive distress as IBS and suggesting a low fibre diet as per the previous post is quite frankly a dreadful suggestion, fibre helps to bulk the stool and is essential for good gut health.

Two of the top culprits are gluten and dairy. I suggest cutting those out for a couple of weeks and see if there is any difference.

@Diarymumma in addition to my previous post perhaps consider the below and requesting the relevant tests.

Again this is something a nutritionist should be able to help with. If it is caused by bile not being reabsorbed then a low fat diet could help in addition to treatment
