Chicken pox scars - tea tree, arnica or bio oil?

What would you use?

Both my lovely girls have had the pox really badly and have some severe craters and scarring, including in their faces. I'm keen to do anything I can to minimise the scarring, obviously...

I've been recommended to use all the above, but am at a loss as to which to use, if any!

The fruits of your wisdom would be much appreciated.

I know it's trivial, but I just want my girls' beautiful milky smooth skin back... Sad

Many thanks in hope

Rosa mosqueta oil is very good for scarring.

Thanks otter - not heard of/seen that - where would I get some, do you know?

I'll investigate...

I second Rosa mosqueta. You'll probably find it in a good health shop, or maybe Neal's Yard.
I got mine in Italy and used it after I had very bad cp, it worked marvellously.

Bio oil worked a treat in our house for pox scars.

My DD had terrible chicken pox (infected and hospitalised), leaving awful scars. I used bio oil on them. What really worked though was just time. I was devastated by the state of her skin initially but now, nearly 2 years on, the scars on her face which were absolutely awful are hardly noticeable - at least only if you are looking closely. I don't think I would have used tea tree or arnica for helping scarring. Don't know about Rosa mosqueta, but I can see it's available on Amazon (think I might get some and give it a try)

That sounds dreadful! We've got some big scabs, but nothing like that, your poor DD, so encouraging that they've faded so well...

Couldn't find Rosa Mosqueta, but got Rosehip oil from Holland & Barratt - is that the same?

Have bio oil too - maybe I'll alternate!?

Thanks for all responses...

Hi designer baby, I personally wouldnt recommend bio oil at least not on their faces, if they have crater scars it may clog the pores and cause cysts called milia.

This happened to my dd who had very severe chicken pox 11 months ago. She has many many pock scars to her face, and one prominent one in the centre of her nose!

I would recommend high factor sun block, and a moisturiser like cetraben, and time will only tell.

My dd's will always need a long fringe, not much we can do about the rest of her face, they have faded loads but the dents are permanent (I think!).

Hope your dd's turn out ok,

Take care x

Thanks Hartney,
Would it be your advice to avoid putting any of the above suggestions on the scars? Or is it something with Bio Oil specifically?

Thank you - I hadn't imagined we could make it worse!!

Aaaaargh. Never been good at wait and see.
Far better at 'do something while we're waiting and seeing'...

I would avoid any type of oils to be honest as it won't make any difference to pitted scars.

I was like you in the beginning and would of tried anything that would of helped. We consulted our GP, a dermatologist and a plastic surgeon and none of them adviced bio oil.

Keeping them protected from the sun and well moisturised is prob the best advice I can give anyway.

If your daughters scars are minimal on the face I wouldn't worry too much as they do fade and become less noticeable.

I haven't come across a case as severe as my daughters anyway and I have looked at many childrens faces over the last 12 months!

How recently did they have the pox?

Hartey x
