My DS2 used to suffer with very bad colic and reflux as a baby, but since 6 months has been completely clear of it. However, and this may be completely unrelated, but over the last month he has woke up with tummy pains at 6am (Always the same time!) and then throws up about an hour later, and once he has thrown up he is fine. It has happened 4 times over the last month, doesn't seem viral to me and he only throws up the once, but am concerned that there could be some underline problem.
I have a dr's appointment this evening for him, but have a feeling they are going to fob me off!
Anyone else had this happen?!
Many thanks.

maybe ask your GP for a referral to a paediatric gastroentrologist as they'd be better equipped than a GP to know the cause & how to deal with it, but it does sound food related

you don't say how old your DS is ?? but is there something her regularly eats or drinks before bed??? - if so that is your likely cause

my own DD had similar problems - still would if we didn't know why & how to manage it - in her case, she is Lactose intolerant & intolerant to a lot of food additives, artificial sweeteners, colours, flavour enhancers, preservatives etc - she also now has a diagnosis of IBS, which all of the above affect.

She too had bad colic & reflux problems when tiny, something we managed with my own diet (BF) but the lactose intolerance kicked in later when she was 5, after a serious illness & strong anti B's - this can cause stomach pain & diareah & sometimes will make her sick IF she eats the wrong cheeses, drinks the wrong milk etc -

I'm wondering if your DS has a milk drink for bed?? - if so maybe try him with something else for a few nights & see if he is still ill

good luck

Hi!
He is 2.5 years old. I have kept a note of what he is eating and drinking before bed, and as yet there are not patterns, he doesn't have milk at bedtime anymore, and rarely during the day! I just got back from the doctors who said that they are not sure what it is or why it's happening, but that he looks well! (Very helpful!!!) They said to keep a food diary for a month and then go back!
I will do this, but will definitely be asking for a referral to the pediatric gastroenterologist, thanks for that advice!
He is a bit underweight for his age, despite eating like a horse too, so we shall see!
X

sounds like he really does need to see the gastro, especially with him being underweight too, theres lots of things it could be, most not serious, but obviously a proper diagnosis is needed.

Something else has come to mind, that might not be relevant, but worth mentioning.

I had big problems with acid reflux myself & lying down would often have me being sick - years it was fobbed off as just that, until I got a new GP & she tested me for "Heliobacter Pylori" - came back positive - its needs specialist antib's to treat it & obviously given your DS age the hospital Gastro would be the ones to follow that up properly
